Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Right then - a few of us are having our first experience here from the 27th for 4 days.

Having never been I would appreciate any and all advice on the resort - eating, drinking, skiing. The trinity.

We're all half decent on boards or ski's so are going to look into guiding etc. for a day also so any advice there would be great too.

Opinions please!

fordy11, I didn't know Vernier was a ski resort? Handy for CERN though.

Almost certainly a couple of acceptable restaurants in the village but I'd be tempted to take the tram (from Meyrin, a short walk) into central Geneva in the evenings.

Vernier is great. Not much vertical but one of my favourite things about it is the short transfer time. Only about a 3 minute walk from the airport.

The best thing about Vernier is the short transfer from GVA - about 5 mins or so. There's some great restaurants and bars in the old town but no ski lifts from memory. My last visit was about 5 years ago though so things may well have changed.

I think we might be getting ourselves confused here.

Vernier, whilst a lovely suburb of Geneva cannot be confused with Verbier, a world class ski resort.

Vernier advantages:
Very close the airport, you could actually walk it so as short a transfer as you could hope for. The main highlight is a 1km long block of flats. Quite spectacular and well worth a visit.
Proxmity to CERN as previously highlighted.

Vernier disadvantages:
Noise pollution due due to proximity to international airport is endemic.
Its not a ski resort.

Verbier advantages:
It IS a world class ski resort.

Verbier disadvantages:
It is a 2 hour drive from the airport.

I hope that clarifies everything chaps.

KR.

Ahh, I see. Thanks Quimpo. If that's the case though, why has Fordy11 booked a ski holiday to Vernier?? Seems a bit silly.

Make sure you're on skis any day you choose to go beyond Siviez. Long drags and paths. Vallon D'Arbi you could do yourselves but a guide worthwhile for lots of other stuff.
