Anywhere within a day's drive from Geneva would work OK

I reckon that puts Aviemore in scope then !

If we put it back a week, will there be a noticeable difference in congestion?

yes, and I think that's your answer. Mid March should be absolutely fine for snow in a huge range of resorts within a sensible drive of Geneva.

You'll need to Register first of course.

All French school holidays will be over (and the 9 - 16th is Paris, which is locally thought of as the worst - crowded, pushy and shovey).

Thornyhill, I could offer you a 2-bedroom apartment (self-catered) for the week of the 9th or space in a catered chalet for either week.
We're based in Sainte Foy, where crowds are rarely an issue. I'd expect the week of 9th March to be quite quiet on the mountain and the week of the 16th to feel like you have your own private ski resort! Drop me an email (website in signature below) if you want to discuss further. Snowheads discount!

Its worth noting only zone C - which is Paris is off for w/c 9th but they are also off the previous week - in my experience (?) its unusual for the french to have a school holiday so late into March?
Hopefully it wont be too bad - as thats the week I'm going!

In Les Sybelles (which I expect to be a bit like Sainte Foy in business profile), the prices for apartments drop from the 500ish mark to the 200ish mark when moving between w/c 9th and 16th March. I think that says it all!

it varies a bit but is always 4 weeks - it depends where the Saturdays fall but it's definitely until 16 March this year. Has caught a lot of people out.

Hi Thornyhill,
We have four spaces in Chalet Bon Vie from 17th to 24th March for £299 per person, fully catered. Any use?

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I'm in Morzine that week. I must've mis-read the school holiday chart because I was convinced there was no holidays that week. Doh!
