Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Taxis in La Daille (Val d'Isere)

We are staying in La Reculaz, on the main road into Val d'Isere. We'll be coming by Ben's Bus, but they don't stop in La Reculaz, so will be going to Val d'Isere and getting a taxi. We're arriving at about 10pm, and planning to get BB to drop us at La Daille, which is only a couple of kilometres from where we're staying.

Would it be easy to get a taxi at that time of night on a Saturday? Is there a taxi stand, or would it be a case of phoning for one? Or might it be easier to get a taxi in the centre of Val d'Isere? Don't really want to book ahead, as we won't be sure of what time we'll arrive.

Get off in La Daille..... fine.... but book ahead and say that you are coming in on Bens Bus - they should be flexible enough. There is no taxi stand as such... only in the centre of town.

There's no taxi stand at La Daille, and TBH not many taxis in Val Town. But there is a centre in la Daille that will be open with numbers.

Any recommendations on taxi companies, or are they all much of a muchness? And is there any regulation about pricing at all? Have a feeling this could be a very expensive 2Km.......

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

sj1608, I would ask the rep on the Bus very nicely (potentially with a bottle of duty free) before you get on - just make sure your bags are easily accessible when they are loaded.

I had contemplated that already Smile

Not used BB before, so not sure how flexibale they may be on the day. The email in response to my question was very firm about not doing it.

the transfer companies might have to be very careful about rules at the moment (see thread about the harassment). Anything that makes it look as though they are providing a taxi service - such as people just hopping on at a stop, or dropping people off at unscheduled stops, probably puts them foul of their rules.

I had wondered about that, but if that was the case I would have thought they would have explained in the email. I'd be very sympathetic to that position.

sj1608,
I wouldn't have thought it much more expensive to get dropped at the bus station in Val and get the taxi form there. You are nearer cover if it is bad weather and more able to flag a taxi if needed.

sj1608,
Having been on Bens bus they are fine but not flexible you may be on the main bus or a shuttle but your luggage will not be immediately to hand.
