Poster: A snowHead

Well , not new , but only skied in for 5 days, as too small for previous owner. Rossignol Soft 3, feel very snug compared to my old boots, but they are too big. I'm seeing if I need them re-moulded or not before my trip next Wed. Much more close fitting than my previous ones and getting a few pins and needles now so I've undone the buckles. LOOvely, much better

Helen Beaumont, where are you off to?
I'm off to Sauze d'Oulx on Sunday, I will be taking the Manchester Airport train from Darlington station at 10 tomorrow night.
I hope you have a great time.

Off to Serre Chevalier, for a combined ski and property hunt holiday. Think I'll get some footbeds for my boots while I'm there. Flying from STansted, so about 4 hour drive down, still flight to Turin were cheap enough-just over £50 each.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Helen Beaumont, have you "shell fit" the boots? Take the liners out, put your feet into the shells, and see how much room there is behind your heel when you toe is just brushing the front of the boot. You want 1-2cm back there (less for higher performance, more for a bit more comfort). If you've got the right amount of space, getting them molded would be a good idea.
And I think footbeds are important, but recommend the ones that are flexible under the arch.

SSH-did the shell fit-1-2cm like you said, looks like I did get a bargain. I had tried the boots in La Plagne, but decided not to spend the money, as I had other things to buy, so I knew I liked them, think I need some thinner sock though, have 1 pair, but need more.

Helen Beaumont, I prefer very thin socks like the Ultimax that are often termed "sock liners". I wear them alone.
Get those things molded! Sounds like you got a deal!

Helen Beaumont, have a great time out there - still plenty of fab snow. Make sure you get into Le Yeti to say goodbye - apparently it's for demolision this summer to make way for some new apartments (could be good if you're looking to buy).
I had a look at a couple of places when I was there last week. Not a huge choice and what there is seems a little on the expensive side, although I was confining the search to Chantemerle, St Chaffrey and Villard Latte (?). Good luck, anyway
