Poster: A snowHead

I heared on the grapevine that the road over the dam is due to be closed as part of the dam refurbishment work. I called in the Tourist office and this is the latest info;
From 18th FEBRUARY 2013 to 6th JUNE 2013
- Monday - Friday, 1000hrs - 1200hrs restricted one way traffic contolled by traffic lights.
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday nights 2200hrs - 0600hrs ROAD CLOSED to all traffic.
This will obviously cause major disruption to both Tourists & workers.

I'm guessing that this time of year is probably when the Damn has the least water in, from memory damns are often worked on during the winter due to less water and thus less pressure

Um.. till the 6th June!? That's right through the spring meltwater when it is likely to be highest, or at least have the greatest flow.

Its all part of a €1,3 billion refurbishment of the whole hydro system from the Dam to Bourg - more details on the Tignes thread. Le Lac de Chevril has already been drained.

It's strange they didn't schedule this work when they empty the reservoir every 10 years for "regular" checks and maintenance.

welshflyer, What I missed was it is a 3 year €1,3 bill programme - employing 200 people full time for 3 years. The whole thing is 60 this year so probably needs a bit more than a rub down with an oily rag!
