Evening chaps,
I've got 9 people in my group in total and I'm trying to find the cheapest method of getting us from Geneva airport to Tignes les Brevieres (return) for the week of Feb 23rd. Some of the private transfers are astonishingly expensive (even more than the plane ticket!) so I've looked at hiring 2 cars but this looks to be around £600.
Many thanks for your help,
Andy

That doesn't seem unreasonable but I presume you have fuel on top of that?
IIRC French regulations limit a minibus to 8 passengers so 9 people is unfortunate.
I've used Coolbus in the past and would recommend them.
How about Ben's Bus, at £74 return per person?
Or are these the "astonishingly expensive" transfers you referred to?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Altibus or Bens Bus - both provide excellent service at reasonable prices

Try running a transfer business and see if you can do it cheaper then - there is plenty of competition out here so no cartels.
Alternatively ask at Heathrow for a return transfer to the other side of Birmingham and see if it looks expensive then.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

garbit, Try to get the 9th person on a shared transfer. The reason for the high price is that most transfer companies have 8-seater minibuses (regulations change as soon as the vehicle is bigger). Many companies advertise last minute seats on http://www.findtransfers.com/shared_transfers.asp or as mentioned your can try Ben's Bus, or Snowbus. For the other 8 you can get a much more competitive price...

My astonishingly expensive transfer was a quote for €1600 which is just daylight robbery! I did notice bens bus at £74 return and it would probably be similar to the cost of the two cars. The reason I'm out of touch with transfer costs is because we normally drive from the uk and the trips are organised by a Yorkshireman

Mountainsun mainly cater for those staying with them. They will take others if they have spare capacity though. I think you'd be lucky if they have space for 9 each way, worth a call though.

garbit, Why not hire a minibus yourselves from GVA airport? You've got it then for when you are there, sneaky trip round to La Daille, up to Le Fornet or down to Ste Foy for midweek day trip out?
FOC car parking at TLB carpark at end of village.

Like you, I found hire care was the best best when I last had to arrange transfer for a group. My experience has been that private transfers work well for the resorts close to the airport, but once you're into a trip of 2hours or more you'd be better off in a hire car.

If you can get bensbus for €74 return each, from Geneva to Tignes, I'd say that was an excellent buy.

Stick one person on the bus, private transfer for the other 8, watch the price of the private transfer be cut in half!

Hiring a minibus from the French side of GVA airport is cheaper, but I'm not sure on the max numbers. Two very small cars usually works out cheaper than a minibus on the Swiss side.

Why not try Snowstar Transfers. Give Richard a ring on 02081338411. He's based in Tignes with 4 busses.
