Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

My daughter has two small kids so she knows a lot of other Mums - two of them have partners who have yet to spend even one night on their own with a child. I find that absolutely astonishing but as fixx says, it would be a bit odd to discover such a fundamental thing about somebody only after you decided to have kids with them.

I get the impression that this is often down to obsessional mothering than reluctance of dads to take responsibility. Sad because it feels like a route to being a McDonalds dad every other weekend in the future.

fatbob, in London, it's Pizza Express - if you want to see the whole cornucopia of quiet despair, mis-directed anger, numbing non-communication and mild terror masked as 'aren't we having a fun time', go to the Pizza Express just south of tha British Museum at the weekend - one of the most depressing places I have ever eaten. The best dads I have seen go very Zen and let the mothers get it out of their system then quietly start to do various child releted things without being asked. They are some of the most intelligent men I know and are, I hate to say it, demonstrably wiser than I.

I'm sure that's sometimes the case - but still, it's something that parents need to think about, early on. My OH looked after our 3 kids for many years, when I was working - in other words, we were completely "role reversed". He was a terrific father, but a fairly hopeless housekeeper. wink

You’re all out of luck, I’m off to Chamonix for the weekend to find some odd Scandis. Or console myself with skiing and watching muscular men wrestling in mud while wearing tight clothes.

Apparently I might also have to watch the Superbowl, ick. Despite being pro-helmets when skiing, I’m very anti helmets and foam pads while running around with a ball – wimps.

fixx, I'll track you down, I'm very good at it, very persistent. Mind you it's not much of a challange: Cham. + bar + 6N's - easy. The only issue is if feef takes it into his head that he'll do the same thing - he's got a van, he can stakeout AND get down there quicker. That gives him the edge. Hmmmmm.

I'm also disinclined to watch the American football. Anyone sport where particpants need oxygen after running for 45 seconds doesn't really command my attention.

They may be many things from steroid abusing hulks to poor role models but one thing they aren't is wimps: helmets don't offer is much protection in the highly evolved and specialist athleticism world of the NFL

Speculation that the big hits of professional rugby will eventually have a sad legacy although concussion control is more highly codified here than in the US I think.

Returning to the OP I guess we're all different and different reletionships tolerate different things. I skied with friends before we had children but, once children came along our income dropped and skiing was out of the question for a few years. Then we all went as a family (Scotland, budget) and the boys learned to ski. We then continued to ski as a family and only one week, sometimes two was realistic. Even if I could have afforded it I would never have gone skiing (even though I wanted to....) and left my OH looking after young children - it wouldn't have been tolerated. It's a question of what is reasonable for a particular relationship (in a sense nothing to do with skiing). Only you can know that. In a way, skiing can become a selfish obsession (hence this website....) but I guess that is the nature of man and every individual has their own idea of what is reasonable and what can be tolerated. Regards.

Hey I'm not a wimp, played both rugby and american football at uni, hurt myself way more playing football (oddly only ever in training) than i ever did playing rugby, guess its cause you use yourself as a weapon rather than tackling properly, though more rugby players are starting to wear 1920s football gear (scrum caps and body armour).

Until that last paragraph you sounded like the perfect women Razz

There are some that operate in that way, but even within that, there are some specific, standalone systems.

Our database does have other 'brands' hanging off it, but it's mainly our membership. We can, within that, split the database up based on various criteria and set up a site specific to those members. It's just a way of allowing the membership to be a bit more targeted and match those who are similar

I posted something similar for snow loving couples Smile
Eventually the thread was closed.

I think its an excellent idea.

THe business model attractive as it is contra-seasonal. - Singles will not be chasing half term or christmas week.
There is plenty of real activity to hide behind, and the guys wont necessarily be better skiers than the girls.
All you need is a website and plenty of pictures and user stories.

Im not sure you would get as far as having have it all happen in a large "singles chalet", without some intervention from the authorities, but the vision alone makes it worth a try.

Also you need to watch out for wikilawyers telling what not to do.

Do it first, or I might steal the idea for next year and do it just for fun and charity, I still have a good size place empty most weeks.

No, no, you're all over complicating it. We just need a dedicated thread here on snowheads. Much like the snowheads profiles thread but with pictures. All you need is a few bits of info and a couple of photos and Bob's your uncle.

And the initial 'courting' should take place on the thread so that we can all wade in with our infinite wisdom and comment on proceedings. Then, if the match fits, so to speak, said couple can continue via PM/offline. Should the pairing result in progeny we reserve the right to name the children. With proper snowheads usernames Laughing

My (now ex) wife never skied and never wanted to. Three of my four kids did however and for a number of years I took them skiing on my own. The first time the youngest was 5 and she had a fantastic time. Looking after children is as hard as you make it and never a chore. Sure in those early years there were times when a full days skiing was difficult but we had fun while the wife and eldest girl stayed home. I did take all four one year and the wife went to Tenerife with her mates, win all round Smile I also went on my own for at least one trip a year

A few suggestions for the OP:

If you are happy to try a holiday where you ski (most days) and your wife does something else, Spain might be worth a go. Stay somewhere like Granada and you could go up to the slopes each day whilst she goes down to the beach.

Or you could do a two-location holiday and spend 4 nights each at slopes and beach.

I'm not sure how old your child is, but as soon as she/he can ski that will make things easier. This year we are going in a chalet with friends, and one of the friends is bringing his 6 year old daughter. If you could take your child away with you it does make it possibel for you to go away and your wife to work as normal. It might be worth posting on here to see if there are any family groups with spare rooms so that your child will ahve other children to play/learn with, and you can ski with the grown-ups.

Without prying too much, you say you have the money to ski more but not the lifestyle. Is it possible to excahnge some of that money for lifestyle?
- would the money pay for childcare if you took an extra week away?
- could you buy extra holidays from your employer.

Good luck working something out.
