Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ante Kostelic and the Kitzbuhel Slalom course.

Apparently Ante set the course and the jury & coaches scrapped it and had it reset.
Never heard of that before, what's that all about then ?
Surely not as simple as setting them in favour of Ivica as he must have been setting them for races involving Ivica & Janica for years ?

Tarquin, Yep, it was too different, but he is known for setting fairly eccentric courses. There is a lot of stuff going on that seems very suspect. It is not the first time it has happened though. Perhaps they should have reset the Ladies GS second run yesterday as well. Supposed to be a Giant Slalom but was more like a Super-G. Set by one of the American coaches -hmmm cynical, moi? Never wink
Why was Sporn disqualified he was using the same kit he used last week in Wengen? There was no problem there, so why is it "illegal" this week. Puzzled power games for the upcoming Championships.

Ante courses are great to watch for ski nerds but don't make the best TV Viewing, I suspect it was a seriously difficult set & FIS wanted better TV SKIING

 You know it makes sense.
You know it makes sense.
It has happened before, and it will happen again... but only when it's about settings from small, non-important country coaches. Best sample is this years Kitzbuehel SL settings, which was problematic, and was re-set, and this years Maribor GS, and last years Ofterschwang GS (both 2nd runs, both set by US coaches, and both set as SG race to suit Lindsey better). Noone questioned these two GS settings, and everyone were all over Gips.
Very similar thing happened few years ago, when Burki was still coach of Slovenian DH team and because of few very strange SG settings that season, he was threatening for two month, that he will set DH course in Kvitfjell SG, which he was suppose to set. Noone even checked that setting at that time (it was in reality very normal, closed SG, and far from fast SG races, we have seen that year, and even further from DH), but he got warning to re-set it. His reply was "I have never set course twice, and I won't this time either". So they (without even much of consultation with coaches) changed setter and re-set course. I guess Burki won't have similar problems this year, when he's Austrian coach, no matter if he sets DH or SL instead of SG.
As far as Gips goes... yes, his courses are weird, and personally I don't like them, since it's really hard to find single decent position for photographers (pretty much all breaks (under which is best position for photographers since you have clean background this way), are set with some weird combination without distinct turning gates etc.). But thing is, there are rules FIS set for SL courses, and his settings are inside of rules (number of gates, space between gates, corridor etc.). If they are weird or not, that's really not important. Hard? Well bad luck, learn to ski, afterall it's about best skiers on World so hell yes, they should be hard. It doesn't fit local hero? Well bad luck once again. That's exactly reason, why course setters are not only Hirscher's coaches but it's divided equally between all top 15 WCSL skiers' coaches.

Fattes13, which is why they are getting rid of the classic Combination and replacing it with nothing particular and the City Event! It is wrong to allocate WC points to a city event parallel slalom when only a very restricted number of skiers are permitted to take part.

I like the Classic combination with a proper Downhill and a 2-leg slalom - it definitely shows up who are the best all-rounders. So what if some don't make the grade, they need to improve ALL their skills then don't they! wink I'm with primoz on this, there is something foul in the kingdom of FIS currently.

I know nothing whatsoever about course setting. I just like to watch the ski racing on telly. But surely the course is either set within the rules or not. If it is, it stands, if not, it's redone. End of Puzzled

Not really, as we already have seen Wink
One more thing... first vote against Ante was 6:3 for Ante and for course to stay. Hujara went further and pushed another vote, so that things would finally end, few guys turned around and voted for new setter, because otherwise they would be voting and voting until morning.

Does Hujara have his own agenda then ? (sorry primoz if this is getting a bit deep). Great insight though, thanks!

Tarquin, I don't know if you can say this, but thing is, that some countries can push some decisions, while others can't. Even though by the book everyone are equal, but in reality it's not. Best sample of this was last year's decision about ski change. Everyone except Austrians and Atomic were against, yet they managed to push it through without any problems. If this would be for example Sweden and Stoeckli (instead Austria & Atomic) going for it, noone would even take it into consideration.
So I wouldn't really say Hujara has his own agenda, but rather that, there are some strong countries behind, and if he like it or not, he has to follow that, if he wants to stay "in charge". And in this case, Austrians wanted win... badly. With Gips setting some of his masterpieces again, chances for Hirscher would be much smaller, and with Jurjec (Slovenia tech coach) setting second run (there's more behind this Wink), chances would go even smaller. So they really didn't wanted totally off course in first run. Since Austrians can't do this themself, they pushed to Hujara, since he's only one who can do it. And in reality, he really doesn't have chance to tell them to fu** off.

primoz, Thanks again Very Happy So really, just like most sports and we shouldn't be surprised, its a business now like everything else & run by the big players.
Lets say Alex Ferguson & Manchester United want goal line technology & Barnsley don't... Laughing No difference!
