 Poster: A snowHead

Hi, just bought a pair if 1980's vintage skis on eBay for a very small sum. I plan to saw them in half build a as sladge onto them. Anyone got thoughts on how to attach a lump of wood to a ski. I will need fixings at the front and roughly in the middle of the original ski. The middle ones should be able to use the original bindings threads, but I am unsure about the front. Drill right through and damage the base, or try and put a thread in the thinner part do the ski?
Ideas?

sounds a laborious way of making a sledge. What's the objective? Retro style or get you nicely down a hill?

Just drill all the way through the ski.
Countersink the hole in the base so it keeps the head of the screw from running on the snow.
But best of luck in drilling through the skis - depending on what they are they may have some very tough stuff inside 
Sawing them in half is best done slowly by hand with a hacksaw - cut the edges on both sides first then the middle.

Idris, many thanks, will be giving it a go on Saturday. I might diamond cut the ski to get a clean cut.
pam w, had a go on one last weekend, made with skis as runnwrs. It was the fastest sledge on the hill, and such a lot of fun. It was miles better than either the traditional wood sledges or the moulded plastic ones.

find another ski and give yourself an engineering project to create one of these
warning! it's damned fast, so running on real skis, you'll probably want a parachute to deploy!

I'd be inclined to mount the seat around the center, where the bindings go, but then use leaf-springs to support it nearer the tip and tail, which will still allow the ski to flex normally.
But then I'm a geek that always overdoes things
