Very simple question which oddly I can't find an answer to anywhere...
Can I walk back to 2000 from 1950 if we miss the last bus (seemingly ~8pm) and the gondola (also seemingly 8pm). Or is it a taxi ride? 1950 looks prettier so figured we might head there for chalet night off - but can't work out how to get back!
Thanks
aj xx

pretty sure the gondola runs until about 11pm - but I'm sure someone with local knowledge will be along in due course.

Been in LA 2000 last 2 seasons and used the Gondola (cabriolet) up and down to 1950 many times but not late at night, just had a look at opening times on Les Arcs App and opened from 0845 till 2300, hope that answers your question, if you had to walk up there is a slope that the drag lift runs up and you could quite easily walk up that, not sure what it would be like if you have a few jars on board. As I mentioned the Les Arcs App is excellent for lift opening times, piste conditions and weather forecast, heading out on Saturday myself and so excited.

I thought it used to open later too - but this was the only opening hours info I could find and it says 8pm http://www.arc1950.com/en/hiver/le-village/Access/id-menu-123.html. 11pm sounds better but as long as there is a fairly simple piste to trudge up we'll be fine, from memory it can't be far as the two villages are pretty much literally on top of each other! Thanks

The cabriolet shuts between 9-9.30pm but opens then again till late. Not sure of exact time but it is always signposted well. You could walk down or up the slope, (not advised) but if you do then do it in a group as if something happens you are forked. Isolated and dark slope and bloody cold

Even if you take the safe route and walk up the road its probably only 15 or 20 minutes. In any case I can't imagine there's a huge amount going on in 1950 past 11pm anyway (barring any special events) so you're probably best getting back up to 2000 to El Latino Loco if you want to continue into the small hours.

The road that has signs up saying don't walk it due to avalanche risk?

Well its the only road in and out of Arc 2000 so I don't think I'd classify it as a deathtrap! And I'd consider it safer than hiking back up a closed piste, to be honest. But point taken; its high in the mountains so you'd hope anyone out at night would take extra care.

Dav, Sorry wasn't having a go but there is a huge sign by the bus stop in 1950 with flashing lights warning pedestrains not to use the road between 1950 and 2000 for fear of avalanche. There are huge banks of snow to the side that wouldn't really do much to a car but could hurt pedestrains if they fall.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

No, its a fair point. Admittedly in the past when getting back from 1950 to 2000 I've either taken the cabriolet or, just once, come back up the piste (which was pretty fun while smashed, but hardly safe!)
As I said earlier, probably the truly safe thing to do is get the cabriolet back before 11pm and carry on in 2000 for an extra revelry.

Dav, On a more important point how the hell can anyone afford to stay out past 7pm, let alone 11pm, in 1950 or 2000 with the price of a pint?

You know it makes sense.

thefatcontroller, that's a very good point! Even in my old seasonnaire days of reduced bar prices it was an effort in itself (and I found a noticeable difference in 1950/2000 compared to 1800 where I lived). In fact this year will be my first going back to paying punter's prices in the Alps; not looking forward to that!!

George was very pleased to sell me drinks for only £6 a pint.

So cabriolet should be open late, else taxi, else walk up ski slope - sorted cheers. After getting stuck once at the wrong end of the peisey buckets after our taxi driver got kidnapped by smurfs (yes, really) I like to be prepared with a fallback plan! We are a group of 10 and usually stick together so don't worry too much about me wandering to a cold and lonely doom aj xx

a.j., forget the taxi option. Unless things have drastically changed in the past year or two, taxis are fairly non-existent around Les Arcs and have to be called up from Bourg St Maurice.
