Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Anyone wrapped / skinned their board?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I've just bought a new board and fancy getting it wrapped, but I'm worried that it'll look tatty quite quickly.

Has anyone got their board wrapped? How did it hold up? Any recommendations of company to do it?

Cheers

Go to Wilkinsons, they sell sticky back vinyl that will do the job in a range of designs. It won't last long at all, but at £1 a roll you can afford to peel it off and replace it every few weeks of use.

Great, thanks, would never have thought to check there. Do you know he easy it is to peel back off?

trainee snowboard jedi, F easy - just lift a corner and it peels back off again. Doesn't leave a residue on the surfaces I've used it on, but if it does a bit of panel wipe on a rag will take it off. Suspect it might leave a residue if you got it very hot, but you aren't going to get your board that hot.

If not visible in the store, ebay sells similar stuff for similar price. We found a rack with about 10 different designs, from natural wood effect to cow print, smarties and pool tiles etc.

You can get custom skins made to your own design if you're that worried, don't know about the cost but a google for "Custom snowboard skins uk" gives heaps of options.

trainee snowboard jedi, Yup, I've done it and there are a couple of do's and dont's. I'm a designer and I printed my design with a Mimaki JV33 wide format printer.

Don't try to take it all the way to the edges, it will peel and split.
Do use a uv laminate to protect the design
Do be prepared for it to cost more than you think
Don't use the cheapest print vinyl
Do use washing up liquid and Isopropyl Alcohol to repeatedly clean your topsheet before installing
Don't use any other solvent Shocked
Do design in your mounting holes
Do measure twice or more before printing and or cutting

Lastly . . . Don't be a dick with the design and embarrass the world of boarding . . . we have enough problems already.

Most vinyl firms will do it, and most motorsport firms who wrap cars , not really worth it , better to sticker it up .

Just shred the thing. You'll be eyeing up a younger firmer model within a couple of years anyway.

You're probably right and I have decided against wrapping it.

Most google searches are either US companies or DIY kits, as I'm a complete mong at these things, I would want someone to do it for me. I tried sticking a whiteboard roll onto a wall once, it didn't go too well.

I did find this UK based company, but I have no idea what they are like:-

Hi

I am new to this forum, but there is a guy on Ebay who does vinyl wraps, designed to your specification.
I had one made for my board. I love my board but hate the design it came with so basically I gave him an idea of what I wanted along with some images ideas.
It took a few emails back and forward but I was really happy with the finished product.
I looked at some websites and they want anything from £69+ for a wrap. And I couldn't find one I liked. Where as I paid £40 for my own ideas putting onto my board, plus £3.95 postage.
It came through the post, along with easy to follow instructions of how to apply it.

I am well pleased with it. I have used it for a week holiday and it stood the test really well.
He explains the type of vinyl etc what he uses on the listing.
He has also got some pictures on there of ones he has done for other people. They look really good.

Check him out.

Each to their own , but 99% of the time it should be covered in snow, unless your a poser and want to look good holding your board at bars etc
