I was wondering the same thing as Megamum; I'm not really sure how the breakdown company have done anything warranting calls for "naming and shaming". That kind of policy (same kind I had) is a cheap policy; you get what you pay for. My beef with my breakdown service was that the Italian garage the car was taken to (when it really could easily have gone to a main Fiat dealer so the repair would have been guaranteed) did a very expensive job which was badly botched. I took the option of a hire car, rather than hotel cover, as I had to continue my journey to genova (I had a big car full of stuff, which had to be squidged into a small car) but the cost of staying in hotels for the unconscionable time it took the garage to put in a new clutch (well over a week) was down to me.

The rescue company have acted well with in their rights and have stuck to the contract.
The reason I went with this rescue company was because on the comparison site they stated cover effective after 24 hours for the schedule of cover subscribed to, thus leaving me plenty of time as travelling after 24 hrs had elapsed, in the small print it it states full cover is only effective after 72 hours. Until that time, I only get local recovery. If I'd have phoned them some 24 hrs later, they'd have paid out the market value of the market value of the car and flew us home at the end of the holiday. Alway read small print
When I phoned the company to report the break down they made all sorts of promises, ie got me a hire car(shouldn't have happened as I was in the 1st 72 hours) market value of car, flying us home re pating the car ect
I told them it was a gear box and it needed to go to a local repairs garage and not a dealer who'd get the gear box re built, "yes sir no problem" they took it to a main dealer quoting over 5k for a new gear box. Then the phone call saying they'd made some mistakes and they're no longer prepared to do anything.
I'd have stayed with the car in Langres, if I'd have know this in the 1st place and waited 24hrs.
My French is pretty much useless, would it be possible for someone more savvy to google gear box specialist in Langres and translate for me please, if I could get the gear box repaired here, that would be my best option now looking at it,
Star ski are looking after our skis at night, nice family run shop next door to BASS.
Off topic, any idea why BASS charge 95 euros per hour of instruction? That's extortionate.

Yes, they are expensive - though they are usually very good instructors indeed. Local French schools will charge a lot less (€35 - 40 an hour here, depending on season, the lower price at present) but you will take a more of a chance on quality and few will be able to give you focussed technical instruction in English as well as a BASS instructor. Some well informed people on this board say French instructors are the highest paid in the world but I don't see it, myself.

Back on topic, one important point to check with European cover is whether the car is repaired and re-patiated or re-patriated broken. The former leads to delay and an inflated repair bill! (Experience from two breakdowns )

Boredsurfing, the former (not involving repatriation) worked very well for me. I'm sure it was cheaper. The policy covered a hire car (I had to pay for the period after the car was repaired but before I picked it up at the scheduled end of the holiday - fair enough).

I'm still here till 27th so plenty of time, hopefully it won't be too heavy on the pocket |
Then go get your car and buy some decent cover from someone like the AA starting from the 18th, get someone in the UK to do this with a UK IP. Then just pretend it broke down on the way home.
Devious I know, but that's what I would do if I was you |
Insurance fraud generally results in a jail sentence, and certainly a criminal conviction. No more employers; no more insurance; no more life...

James the Last, I refer to my post and link above where AA wil provide cover even if you have already broken down and are abroad.
