Just for reference, I've just hired a car through Holiday Autos using the super duper discount link.
I also found another code on the web which gave an additional £20 off, enter SKIHA20 in the relevant box and your smile will be slightly wider.

Unfortunately it only seems to apply for rentals of a week or longer.
Still good if you're hiring
Nick-o - could I suggest you change the thread title to add "Additional £20 off" as lots of people who use the code probably wouldn't look in the thread.

Just had a quick look at the site and done a test booking. Didn't realise you had to pay extra £80 for winter tyres to be included? I thought they were mandatory and therefore part of the package and you didn't have to pay for them as an extra? Do other hire car companies charge you for winter tyres as well?

£80? How long was the booking for?
I've just started and have been reading similar posts on just that topic. Check this and this.

For seven days March 16th to March 23rd
Just looked on Auto Europe and they include winter tyres as standard but I think the winter tyre charges are included in the price which initially shows as more expensive than Holiday Autos

Yes Auto Europe seem to be including winter tyres now. Having used HA for years, I have just booked through Auto Europe for 2 trips with no excess insurance and winter tyres way cheaper than Holiday Autos. But Minibus is still cheaper with HA.

Personally, I think HA are just making a fast buck - encouraged by the car hire companies.
My experience today...
jimmybog, in nearly 8 years of renting I've yet to be given a Swiss hire car without snow tyres and snow chains.

SKIHA20 no longer working. Damn - too slow. Back to Argus I guess.
FS's experience is interesting though.

Update - just found SKIHA15 through topcashback. Worth a look if you are not already a member. Most of the purchases I have made have paid out (hard cash - not points or somesuch)
If you sign up through this link I get a bonus too! http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/davidlumby

Holiday auto's sale today on French rentals and it works with the super duper link too. Add in SKIHA15 for extra £15 off.

Any recommendations for Salzburg airport? We're travelling out and returning on a Sunday (arrival approx 10.30am, drop off 8am) and it seems that with Holiday Autos we'll get a €90 out of hours charge. Would like to avoid that if we can!

Put in a later drop off, then when you arr at salzburg, put the keys in the drop off box. Ive never been charged for bringing a car back early. In fact in some cases Ive booked for 3 days because it was cheaper doing a w/e rate than a 2 day rental.
The only worry you will have is that your car wont be inspected on your return. If you trust the car rental company that shouldnt be an issue.

jafa, there's an out of hours change both ways, which I found strange. Although the day we travel out is Easter Sunday, so perhaps they are closed. I just thought most airport hire companies are open extended hours 7 days a week.

If you go through the airlines web site you shouldnt be charged an out of hours, ie Ryanir-Hertz, Easyjet-Europcar as they are the preferred provider.
Altenatively, if you know who the end provider is, look at their web site and see what timings they are open. Then ring them. Out of hours charges are normally local charges, just ring and ask.

Clairecf, many thanks for that. Just booked a compact 4dr (Ford Focus) for half term week at Grenoble for under £120 including CDW and credit card fee.

Very interesting. I just had a look at the deals from the French side of Geneva for our lads trip 9-16 March. I booked a car under the Holiday Autos Swiss sale earlier this month for £118 which I thought was a great deal.
Same car, French side - £177.
So it's not always cheaper French side!
