Hi,
I need to get a snowboard, skis and blades waxed. Is it worth doing here (Cheshire) or in alpe d'huez. All would be fine for first day, but would benefit from a wax.
Thanks

Most ski shops in resort in France will wax your sticks ready for 8.30 in the morning if you had them in at 4.30 the night before; it cost me 8 euros a set last week in Valloire. Unless you have a renowned place near you at home, it`s normally better in resort as they grow up doing it. I have just had a really disappointing service in the UK.

Anywhere good in the UK, and you will have to wait or put it in for express service, and drive there... so £10 for wax, at least £ 10 for express, fuel and your time x 2 journeys, just for a wax ? Or walk off the piste, drop them off, walk back next morning, pay about £ 6.80, done. I know which one I will be doing.

There was a little hut by the side of a piste at Passo Campolongo (Dolomites) where you could drop your skis off while you had lunch and they'd do them. Think it was €10.
No help for AdH but thought it was a good idea.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

If you know somewhere at home or in resort where they do a hand wax (or edge) rather than putting them through a machine I'd go for that.

You know it makes sense.

cstreat, Absolutely a machine job is most unsatisfactory
I normally do my own but the tech at the hotel at the PSB was doing a hand wax & edge for 10 euros. It seemed rude not to take him up on that. Made a very good job too.

Which end of Cheshire?
Bring 'em here and I'd do 'em by hand if you want. Edge and wax and winor repairs: £10 for blades and £20 for others. But not really a while-you-wait service - unless you don't mind hanging around for hours.

I always wondered who paid to get their skis waxed. Have always been DIY in our family. Far too many pairs of skis to pay someone else to wax them. Was even selling my old skis on Gumtree yesterday and gave a waxing and sharpening lesson to the person who bought them.

Decathlon in Stockport are doing an edge and wax for 14 quid. Seems reasonable but they take a week to do it.
