Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Flying to Geneva on 2nd March

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi - following our fantastic first ski holiday over Xmas in Zel am see my wife had a rush of blood last night and booked flights to Geneva on the 2nd March. We would now really appreciate advice on where to ski!?!
We are after self catering (and therefore good shops for food and numerous bars/restaurants) for the 2 of us, not too big a travel from accommodation to slopes, ski hire (we have boots), lift passes, transfers from and to Geneva, good choice of red slopes, and free alcohol (ok, I realise that last one is unlikely but while I'm asking for the earth.......)
Thanks in advance Razz

Box of Frogs, welcome to snowheads. snowHead That's the middle of the French school holidays so I'd head towards Switzerland if I were you.

French go skiing to Switzerland too, and so do Dutch, Belgians, Germans and Scandinavians. I don't think it will be quieter than France. But from Geneva you have a big choice of resorts within 1-3 hours transfer time and they will all have what are you looking for.

Box of Frogs, If I were you I would have a look at Morzine, sounds like it would suit your requirements. Short transfer times, plenty of reasonable supermarkets and a good choice of accommodation. Skiing in the Portes du Soleil is excellent. I haven't been there during French school holidays so can't tell you about the queues though...

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Try Samoens. Neige et roc hotel has appartments which have been decent. We last went there 4 years ago though. So check out. Very good food in the hotel if you have a night off, and other Village restaurants. Also get access to the hotels pool and sauna etc. Peak retreats do deals (no transport), if the hotel has no direct space. Great area of the Grand Massif.

There are tons of Swiss resorts accessible by train from Geneva Airport - 10 or so are within a couple of hours, and it's a great journey along the banks of Lake Geneva and beyond.
You can see a map here showing resorts and railway lines in the Lake Geneva area.

Geneva itself is just off the map (to the left).

Agreed - Verbier is easily reached for example but Switzerland prices are now increasingly exorbitant due to the strength of the Swiss Franc.

I reckon that - if amazing skiing is your no. 1 priority - Tignes/Espace Killy would fit the bill. Self catering and transfer options here:

We've skied there in the first week of March before and (other than on the usual suspect home runs) didn't find it to be ridiculously busy, despite tales of French school holiday hell....
