Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Dad and two kids looking for skiing - Half Term 16/2.

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
This is a bit of a long shot but here goes.

I wasn't going to take the family on a ski trip this year as money's a bit tight. We usually go over New Year which seems to have beceom very expensive over recent years. Anyway, my wife's decided she's going to take our youngest to visit a friend in Scotland over half term so I've been given the all clear to try to find a ski trip for me an my other two kids - girls aged 13 & 12.

I don't have flights or anything booked so would need a package deal but am looking for something last minute if there are any cancellations or drop-outs from other family groups.

I'm a 43 year old professional type and my kids are well socialised and house trained Very Happy. We're happy to all share a room - camp beds, whatever... We're very relaxed (but also very enthusiastic skiers - although may try boarding this week) and happy to go with the flow. Don't need looking after but are happy to muck in.

if anyone needs to fill 3 spaces for w/c 16/2 please let me know.

Thanks
Nick

(by the way, my name on here is no reflection of my personal habits, just a cocktail I happen to like!)

Dirty Gibson, dependent on where you live, would you consider driving? Any flights that are still left now, will be expensive, so if you can't find a TO package, it's worth considering. You could then post a request on the Solutions Room of www.chaletsdirect.com where there does seem to be some availability, particularly if you are flexible about exactly where you end up. If driving isn't an option and flights are as expensive as I think they will be now, your only option may be to hit the travel agents or even http://www.igluski.com/ although a quick look on there doesn't turn up anything under £849 pp Shocked

We're fully booked I'm afraid - good luck Very Happy

Driving's not out of the question I suppose. We usually do drive. It rules out Austria though (winter tryres mandatory) which I love.

Puzzled Puzzled Winter tyres needn't cost a fortune. Mine were about £65 each - a set of tyres would cost a lot less than half term air fares. And they're useful in the UK in the winter too.

Good point. I'll cross the tyre issue if an when I come to it. In the meantime, preferred option is a simple package trip or a spare room in an apartment, hotel or chalet. Easyjet to Zurich is still available for £800 for the three of us. Maybe I should just book that and get on a train to Davos or somewhere when I arrive.

Dirty Gibson, we could still accommodate you on the HaTFaB if you arrange your own travel.

Hi,
I am also looking for something at half term for myself and my 17 year old daughter. I'd almost given up as I can't find anything much less than £900 each. The Zurich/Davos option sounds good - can you let me know if you find anything else? I don't want to drive so I'm hoping to find a package or cheap(ish) flights. Thanks, Sally

Sally, If you cen get the flights then going by train to a resort is a good option. Zurich is probably best for this as you can get into Austria, go to places Like Davos/Klosters etc (abot 2h40 from the airport) A good one is the train to Chur then taxi to Flims/Laax - only 1h40. I've done bothin the last few years.

I've found a few packages for around £600 per person. If you don't mind Bulgaria or Andorra then you can get much cheaper.

Just debating whether to book something now or hold out until closer to the date in the hope of getting it cheaper.

Admin, thanks for the offer but flights to Venice look prohibitively expensive and according to google maps if I drive to that part of Italy I'll have to go down the Aarlberg valley. I don't think I'll drive past St Anton to get to Italy Very Happy Very Happy

Hi -

Mother of two girls 10 and 11, ski mostly black and red runs. We have space in a ski-in only self catered place in Megeve.

There is one sleeping room with 3 sets of bunk beds and one two person bed, sleeps 8 and we are 3. Total space in the accomodation is 90 square meters. The place is a downhill ski of 50 meters to the La petite Fontaine ski lift. 800 meters on prepared tracks to the road. I bring all my own food, owner of the place brings your supplies up on a snowmobile.

The price is £115 per person per week, incl bed linens, not a towel, but heating and cleaning. I'm driving.

Looking for someone else with kids that like to ski... check-in 16 Feb, check-out is 23 Feb -

Thanks for all the suggestions. I watched crystal ski and direct skis websites looking for a deal. All the hotels left had awful reviews on trip advisor so I ended up paying a lot more than I wanted to get (what I hope is) a nice place in Austria. Still, that's why I go to work every day I suppose...

All the best

Glad you've found something but it does illustrate that waiting for a half term (or any peak week) bargain IS a gamble. Anything left at a late stage, is usually still there for a reason, other than in the case of a genuine cancellation. Have a fab time Very Happy

Sorry only just saw this, at least of my places will be free, only dont know which ones until I see the snow forecast most likely Gstaad or Hasliberg, depends how flexible you are I guess.
Glad you found something anyhow,
