Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Butterfly news & info on Cautious to Confident week LDA, 16/3/13

As many will know I started the C2C venture with Charlotte(Easiski.com) in Les Deux Alpes as it was just what I needed. I am still cautious (I don't have good balance following a serious ankle injury years ago and my spinal arthritis can be a limiter)... but it has given me the confidence to keep going and having immense fun - without it I'd have given up entirely.

Sadly this year it seems that circumstances have conspired to prevent me going skiing at all. My hubby had a heart attack last April, fortunately he was successfully treated with angioplasty but as you can imagine it's been a real body-blow to us both emotionally. After a good recovery he was positive but through the year has yo-yo'd emotionally so I am seriously concerned about being out of the country and leaving him on his own. To add to that his work has tailed off putting more responsibility on me to earn. I therefore took a permanent contract (0.5 of full time) when it was on offer rather than risk remaining 100% self-employed. This is in an FE college and that of course restricts my holiday times severely. We are only allowed time off when the students aren't in and there are additional weeks when we have to be at college even without them! I am also now racing to get my full interpreter registration which will widen the work I can do rather than remain at my current more limited grade. I was going to manage to go this year having (with great difficulty) persuaded college to honour it as a pre-booked commitment, but now my room-mate has had to cancel on health grounds and another couple who we were going to be in lessons with have also had to cancel. To add to this I have picked up a stubborn arm/shoulder injury (we think maybe RSI to the rotator cuff) and as my arms are my work tools I have to take care to try and sort this out - right now I'd be worrying about making it worse by hauling luggage about etc.

Anyway.... enough of the negatives! I do have some positive news too....Very Happy
Our son is getting married in May!! His fiancee is a lovely lady who has a daughter Catherine (11). We just spent a fabulous Christmas Day all together with them and our daughter/son-in-law. When we arrived Catherine flew into my arms and gave me such a hug and then gave us a "grandparents" card. I haven't seen my son so truly happy and relaxed in years - it's wonderful.

That all said... I'd love to encourage others to go on the C2C - it really is great for those who need lessons with TLC!

If you're not sure what C2C is:

C2C is a special week's course designed for the more nervous skier to build their confidence and progress their skiing. It's taught be Charlotte who says "For many years I've specialised in confidence building, and particularly in older skiers who are unsuited to big group lessons with 'young gun' ski instructors or alongside many younger people. Such skiers are often made to feel inadequate, or that maybe skiing isn't for them, but this is not true".

This year there are 3 courses... the January one is already full. The April one has some spaces and the March one has plenty of space - here are the details:

The package includes half board at a recently refurbished hotel right at the bottom of the slopes; coaching for 2 hours per lesson day; video correction every evening; and liftpass. Travel arrangements should be made independently, but every effort is made to co-ordinate everyone's arrival mode and time. It may be possible for Charlotte to collect a maximum of 6 people from Grenoble train/bus station if necessary.

Each class will be a maximum of 4 people, probably along the following lines (tailored to student group need):
Class 3 - for people who can deal with blue runs but start to get nervous on reds, or for people who are still skiing 'old style' and need to update their technique to deal with modern equipment.

Class 2 - for people who can do a basic parallel, but are not happy off an easy blue run and will have a tendency to stiffen up once out of their comfort zone.

Class 1 - for slow improvers. Participants will be able to do snowplough turns and negotiate an easy blue run at slow speeds using snowplough turns and traverses.

MARCH
This is a particularly gentle week with a 2-hour lesson on alternate days, allowing for plenty of free skiing time with friends/family. If the course isn't full it may be possible to take more frequent lessons of course.
Arrive Saturday 16th and depart on Saturday 23rd; skiing and coaching will be from 17th - 22nd March, either Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday or Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

APRIL
Arrive on Saturday 6th April and depart on Saturday 13th April; daily 2-hour lessons will be from 7th - 12th April inclusive. This is in the Easter hols and runs alongside a children's course.

Thank you for the testimonial Butterfly Very Happy . and personally I'm gutted that I won't be seeing you this year Crying or Very sad I should say, however, that the every other day formula (March only) is only available for class 1 (will do blues under protest, but prefer easy greens). The other classes would be the normal 6 day formula. In April there is class 3 only (skiing easy reds but still nervous), since there are the Hot Tots that same week.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yay for Hot Tots!!

Sorry you won't get to go skiing this year Butterfly, .... Hope everything goes well for you in 2013. Another ringing endorsement for Charlotte for the nervous skier (well and anyone else actually). My best friend spoke wistfully several times over our Christmas break about her lessons with C and the difference a few hours worth of lessons made to her confidence.
