Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

ski hire in Stuben

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I managed to kill my brand new skis the other week Sad , so will probably be renting on my next trip...

Any tips on renting skis in Stuben? Is there even a shop there?

I've seen skis in Jennewein's main store in St Anton with a "Stuben" tag on them (I assumed that the tag meant they were to be shipped to Stuben), so I'm hoping there is an outlet perhaps, or do I need to request them in advance and get them delivered to the hotel?

sah, Theres a Sport 2000 under Hotel Post, facing the carpark - suggest an email to them, sister shop of Jennewein I believe

Markymark29, cheers. Yes, I believe Sport 2000 = Jennewein in that part of the world.

It was there a few weeks ago. I didn't find it online at the time either, that's why I asked here Happy

It is online though, it's called Sports Strolz: http://www.strolz.at/en/rent-a-ski/rent-a-ski-online/

Thanks Sah. I had found Strolz but it is horrendously expensive, even by Arlberg standards! Quoting €164 for 7 day ski hire and that's the most basic level. Something like another €68 for boots!

I think I will head over to St Christoph to hire. A bit of hassle but significantly cheaper!

sah, Try here: http://www.skibase.at

You want to speak to Andi if my memory serves me correctly, although a bit rustic it is significantly cheaper than elsewhere. There is a shop in Kloesterle and one in Wald. About 10 minutes drive from Stuben, if you have a car.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I think there's a bit of confusion here. I went to Stuben last year and rented from Strolz, it was fine, didn't seem any more expensive than St Anton at the time but I only rented for a couple of days and skied the rest of the time on my touring skis. Strolz is still there, under the Hotel Post and it's very handy for the lift (although Stuben is so small it's hard to imagine anywhere that's not handy for the lift Happy )

Since then I've replaced my dead skis with a fab pair of K2 Sidestashes, and also got a nice pair of rock skis from ebay - Scott Crusades from 2009 - and they are probably the best all round ski I've ever tried, but that's for another thread.

Wanderer was asking about this season, sadly I'm not heading back to Stuben this year Sad Well, to be more correct I have no plans to head back... you never know.
