Hello!
My friends and I will be skiing in St. Anton for a week in early March, but prior to that we'll have a few days to sightsee. Do you have any recommendations on which towns/places to visit? Innsbruck? Anything else? We won't have a car, so need places that are accessible by trains/buses. I realize that February is not the most ideal time for sightseeing, but it is what it is... Thank you!

I don't know if you will be able to get there easily, but if you can then I suggest going to see the Otzi exhibit in Bozen, Italy.

Innsbruck is ok for sightseeing for a few hours. Otherwise you can get the train from Innsbruck direct to Garmisch over the border in Germany or very near to Innsbruck you can visit Hall in Tirol. Personally I would spend the extra days skiing somewhere

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Innsbruck is nice enough. Salzburg probably do-able by train too and well worth a visit. Otherwise I agree with jimmybog why not just have more skiing time. If it were me and I didn't want to ski every day I'd rather ski a few days in St Anton then take a rest day (maybe visit Innsbruck then) then ski some more

If it were up to me, I would ski the whole time and try different ski resorts around Innsbruck. But my friends are really keen on sightseeing... And one of them in particular does not want to ski for longer than a few days (she is actually leaving halfway through the week, so she will only have 3 days on the slopes). So I don't have a choice in the matter.
Thank you all for your recommendations!

alenchic, Hall is an interesting medieval town with an interesting museum about its history as a silver mining and mint town. It is also very easy to get the train over the Brenner to Bozen to the Ötzi museum. The Swarovski Kristallenwelt is also a fun half day trip again using the train to get to Wattens. Innsbruck itself is really interesting as it is the former royal capital of the very rich and influential medieval Kingdom of Tirol. In the other direction there is also a lot of historic building and museums in Zirl (another former Mint town engaged in silver mining)

Finished our Zillertal holiday at the top of the ski-jump eating delicious gateau watching the sun set over the Alps - magic.
(Short walk/tram ride from centre of Innsbruck to base of ski-jump, then lift (or stairs!) to top, look down thinking Aghrrr...then into restaurant to recover.)
(Also visited the Alpine Zoological Gardens, which we enjoyed).

Another place near Innsbruck that some would enjoy is Ambras Castle with its Chamber of Art and Curiosities. You can get there from central Innsbruck (station) with bus 4134 (the bus ticket gives reduced price entry to the castle and, stamped at the castle, free return). There is also a tram, no. 6 I think.

Krimml waterfalls could be nice in winter but if you don't have car it could be a pain.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

boabski, I don't think the path is open in winter so you cannot get very close. Most of the paths going to waterfalls and along gorges are closed because of the risk of accidents if someone slips due to either icy conditions or inappropriate footwear.
In summer it is a glorious walk and sight when in full flow!

While in Innsbruck a sightseeing visit up to Nordkette is a must, fab views. And while there, why not get the skis on?
