Yes - absolutely brilliant - seem my reply to your post about Daleboots. James is a star. I drove 150 miles each way to see him (3 times) and I'd do 5 times as much to get a great boot fitted.

Agree - James fitted my boots very well.

Good shop & helpful staff, been there a good few times but had CEM fit my boots before they were established.

I'm thinking about talking to them about the possibility of new boots (looks like a mouse has has a nibble at the top of my liners) when I pick up my newly serviced skis later this week. Do they charge much of a premium on top of RRP for the fitting service? I know you generally get what you pay for but looking after the pennies at the moment because just had to pay this years bill fom the evil Inland Revenue

carolh, did you have to go back after your Daleboots were made for you, and you got them fitted the first time? I have a friend who is visiting me next week who was sent to Outdoor Traders to get Daleboots, by CEM, who advised that they were the only solution for her.
She is picking them up two days before she flies, so no time for more tweaking if they are not right first time. I'm very keen that she enjoys her week and will be hand-picking nice gentle ski routes (and a charming French instructor ) for her. Her husband is a keen skier (they've only been married a few years) and she's game to have a go, but her previous attempts have been ruined by pain from boots so she's apprehensive.

I get my boots fitted by James at Outdoor Traders. I'm fairly sure you pay for materials but not the fitting service (with a discount for SCGB members - not sure if there is a SH discount). You do need to book an appointment as James takes his time making sure the job is done right.

Off to see James on Monday lunchtime Fingers crossed he doesn't do a runner when he sees my ankles.

Hopefully only from the view of a boot fitter. One ankle bone sticks out far more than the other. My last boots lasted 15 years but I was never really happy with what the Snow and Rock boot fitter did with them to solve this problem. With those boots I would always find that the first half of each day was really comfortable but after lunch would be be really crap, I presume because of my feet swelling and moving the problem within the boot. The butchering (or should I say fitting) of the boots also left a gap at the hinge that always let in cold air and gave me cold feet as well.
I have heard lots of good things about James, so fingers crossed that he is indeed a boot magician.

You know it makes sense.

Just back from Outdoor Traders and can confrim that James is indeed a magician. I have never been so comfortable but firmly held in my shiney new boots that I have just bought from them.
You can feel confident that he will point you to the boot that really is best for you, which in my case was the cheapest of the possible options that we looked at.
One thing that crosses my mind though after all the effort going into fitting boots with a custom fits liner and shell is why on earth people buy them online to save afew pounds.

Posidrive, perfectly possible to buy online - depends on your feet and how much you know about what suits you etc. Fair enough if you've got particular issues on either foot, but otherwise it aint that big a deal. What online does do is allow you a better choice. No fitter gives you the best boots for you, they give you the best boots for you that they stock (which for the most part are probably still the best for you, but not necessarily). After many years (and some pro fittings), I now know the brands & models that suit my feet, and also how to fit them myself. I dont necessarily encourage folk to do the saem, all I'm saying is its perfectly possible and your feet wont automatically fall off

Fair enough. It just strikes me that if a boot and/or liner needs to be heated to get the best out of the custom mouldable bits then unless you have the correct kit to do it and know what you are doing there is too much scope to screw it up.
