Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

David Goldsmith's media representation is by this username, in response to dark forces.
The purpose of these postings is merely to set the record straight, and keep it straight.

I am really enjoying this banter.

So DG is toxic, and anything he says the SCGB will ignore, but it is truly great entertainment. And what a pin-head move by the 'club' - and great move by DG to exploit it. I'm smiling as I read (not exactly lol it's a bit late and some of the family are asleep). This repeating saga, much like Nixmap is a great S/head institution and I love it.

Does anyone remember The Perishers, and 'The Great Eyeballs in the Sky'? I'm always taken back to it when I see the battle lines being drawn up, SCGB versus DG in his various guises. Makes I chortle (quietly).

That's a bit rich from someone who's sole ulterior motive proclaimed ad nauseam over 88 pages is to destroy and wind up the club he maintains he is keen to re-join; a club which a significant number of Snowheads actually enjoy skiing with.

Just for the sake of accuracy, it can't be an 'ulterior' motive if it has been 'proclaimed'!

Enjoying this thread very much especially the way DG is talking about himself in the third person, rather like Chris Eubank or Lennox Lewis used to when they were world champions! Most entertaining... Very Happy

Ulterior motive for joining the club; which clearly was not proclaimed when he "accepted the invitation" to join

Just a point of information: an ulterior motive is never "proclaimed". See http://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/ulterior-motive

It's correct that David Goldsmith has recently (certainly not over 88 pages) expressed the view that the Ski Club of Great Britain should be wound up, in an orderly and productive fashion, so that its assets might be deployed to create something much more effective for British skiers. That objective, ironically, would be in line with the lean efficient organisation that reflected the SCGB in its formative (1903-50) years. That would honour the SCGB's founding goals and achievements. This has never been DG's 'ulterior motive', since he has been open in expressing that motive, and careful to assemble factual evidence which could point to that as a necessity and positive outcome. The word "destroy" is quite inappropriate.

Yes, snowHeads and the SCGB do overlap and members ski together, but there are many ways for people to do that. Perhaps this latest concept of SCGB skiing activity - enhanced off-piste risk-taking in an ambiguous arrangement, in the company of a SCGB Ambassador in France [2nd quote] - is not the way forward. As reported, the Ambassador might remove his official SCGB jacket, to provide (unoffical? official?) guidance (to SCGB members?) ... did this happen? ...

Quote:
Looking at some of the French Ambassadors reports I note they refer to 'we skied here, we skied there, lovely weather' etc. (obviously not with members for legal reasons) but with no reference to members at all. For example why not say 'do come along to the social hour; regale a ski story or two; hints 'n' tips given to members etc. I don't know but at least a reference to members would be good. Obviously we expect Ambassadors to enjoy the skiing but with reports not mentioning members kind of sends the wrong message as to the Ambassadorial purpose in resort ...

Quote:
It seems to be working reasonably well in Tignes. Members know how to find the Ambassador, this week's drinks party was very well attended, a mountain guide has been booked for tomorrow. Ambassador understandably might not want to say he has been skiing with members even if he has done so as a member rather than a leader, i.e. no SC jacket, not always skiing first, just skiing in a group as he would with friends, suggesting routes because he knows the resort better than some others.........in fact, he could perhaps suggest routes that a SC leader in jacket would not be allowed to do (e.g. too far from piste) & accompany the group, as long as he is not leading and taking responsibility for the group......

I was thinking more along the lines of Fraggle Rock.

DG = Father Gorg (who thinks himself the king opf the universe ).

GA = mother Gorg ( who thinks she is the queen of the universe ).

SCGB members = the Fraggles ( just trying to get on with life ).

any takers for the Doozers and or the Doc and Sprocket ??

No worries; I'm sure they will all be carrying avalanche cords

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person
On the rocks, the issue here is a serious one - applying to any leadership or companionship amongst SCGB members or snowHeads. Avalanche avoidance is the essence of off-piste skiing (not a debate about kit). Both clubs have directly experienced the fatal or near-fatal consequences of getting it wrong. An avalanche has a serious chance of killing anyone, whatever quality of kit or lack of it.

The 2nd quote above is apparently from a SCGB member who either witnessed a SCGB official giving the guidance described, or is looking forward to it being given. This idea of SCGB officials stripping off their jackets and then entering an ambiguous relationship with other SCGB skiers - perhaps because they then feel free of responsibility - is not one that the French authorities are likely to regard as acceptable. In this instance, they are probably 'dead right'.

So - to clarify - I have no ulterior motive to make up and post the contents of a fictitious e-mail - the e-mail is authentic.

And, to be fair, I have no ulterior motive about anything else - I just want the idiot to shut the £$%& up.

Well it was an ulterior motive until that stream of consciousness revealed the motive.

Scrumpy wrote:

That is a gross distortion of DG's view of the SCGB, which is a body of thousands of fine friendly people he doesn't despise in the slightest.
As for the reasoning, it's already been explained - he sees the SCGB as an organisation rich in assets, but failing in its purpose. A new member-owned organisation, with proper governance, could do far better - with those assets transferred to it.

To emphasise the fact that the SCGB had rejoined David Goldsmith as a member, he immediately decided to be represented by a media spokesname reflecting that fact.
This was perfectly rational - not "disturbed" at all.

To take a slight tangent, suppose the Club was dissolved.

Would all the members benefit financially? Or would they have to be a member for a specific period of time, with no break or expulsion?
How much would they get?

Has David done a full "carpetbaggers" analysis?

SCGB insider may be able to find out for us.

Those with self-interested cash motives can sometimes dissolve a club without trace, except the sad scattering of dosh into a few thousand bank accounts.

The members of a club ultimately - theoretically - control it. Depending on their passive/active participation, the destiny of the club's assets is set.

Perhaps the scenario can be steered with a much more altruistic and creative objective than "carpetbagging'. 6 May 2015.

The receipt of a membership number and Direct Debit confirmation do not constitute proof of a contract.

No, the membership number - as required by the contract - has not been received. The Direct Debit was contractually required for today.

The Ski Club of Great Britain has issued a "membership confirmation" and "payment receipt" to David Goldsmith, on a single document, dated 6 January.

Perhaps you can believe (or perhaps 'know', since knowledge is better than 'belief') how a Judge would interpret that document, in terms of contract law?

You would have to take that to a court to test your premise that a binding contract is in place, my views/beliefs are irrelevant. You have previously stated you do not intend to follow that course of action. Unless that position has changed?

Indeed, if he/they had kept quiet for 72 hours, the chances are they/he would have had a membership number and funds would have been taken then the club would have had to formally expel him/them again!
