Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi All
New to the forum and skiing!
Have started dry slope lessons 2 weeks ago and am now linking snowplough turns. Hoping to progress quick quickly tho'.
Want to buy my own skis for trip to Flaine in March and a few days in Aviemore in January.
Seen the
K2
Supersweet and they sound ideal for beginner. Want something that will last me. Don't want to outgrow them too fast.
I'm 5ft5 and 75kg, so thought about 160's.
Any help or advice appreciated. Thanks

My advice would be to not buy skis right now as anything that is, by definition, "ideal for a beginner", you will indeed outgrow too fast.
The first, important purchase to make once you're sure skiing's for you is boots. Invest in a decent pair, fitted properly by a reputable (or even renowned) fitter and they will help your skiing progress far more than your own pair of skis will.
Further, once you have your own boots, hiring a pair of skis takes barely 2 minutes as the tough job is already done.
Give yourself a few weeks' experience, then go all out for any opportunity to test skis so you can find out what suits you best at that stage.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks for the advice, already got the boots sorted. Got fitted at a ski shop in Glasgow, they fit pretty snug so should be ok.
I hate the thought of paying for rentals, being Scottish and all!
Happy to buy a pair of beginner skis and then sell them on when I progress or give to daughter if they suit her.
Any advice on suitability of
K2
Supersweet?
