Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

My daughter loved the fact that in German, father is pronounced Farter.

So since she began her GCSE German some years ago now, all the kids have all called me "Fart". I try to live up to my name!

In German, father is 'Vater" and is not pronounced 'farter" as there is no R between A and T and you don't usually pronounce letters that are absent.

Ray Zorro, only because that is what you want to hear! Laughing never summer has described it correctly. Many children shorten it to "Vatti" which sounds like fatty! The A sound is a short one not a long one.

When we were travelling through Germany as children, we were fascinated by the size of the town Ausfahrt - my father used to play along with it and tell us that every time we left the Autobahn that we were going to Ausfahrt! Then we twigged that we always went back on via Einfahrt and he came clean and told us it was exit and entrance. Then he told us we were going on an Autofahrt which reduced us to quivering wrecks, crying with laughter, especially as our car did have a tendency to backfire!
