Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

3 days close to Geneva end Jan - Cham too busy?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Husband and I fly to Geneva on Sat 26 Jan 2013 and out from there again Tuesday evening 29 Jan. Both keen skiers who are competent on most slopes and do a little off piste.

We have always wanted to ski Chamonix , but just saw that it is World Freeride champs - will that be too busy and town too full?
Where will the champs be - would we still be able to do Vallee Blanc if conditions good? Also a bit worried that 3 days very short for somewhere where all areas not connected. Should we rather leave Chamonix for when we have more time?

Otherwise thought of Les Carroz or Samoens. Any ideas or suggestions appreciated.

lizski, what sort of ambiance are you looking for? Town? ski in/out? For such a short break you could try somewhere completely different - e.g. Le Grand Bornand (see current thread of that name for some useful information and discussion).

pam w, This is uncanny - have just been reading in WTSS about Grand Bornand and La Cluzas, and checked back to add the suggestion!

Looking for the old town experience - not too keen on modern blocks for skiing. Nightlife not important - good dinner and glass of wine are.
Always love ski in/out, but not a deal breaker and usually difficult with older towns. Any types of accommodation - self catering or hotel or b&b.

Will look at thred, thanks.

lizski, look at the thread mention above and I have found a lovely chalet that sounds ideal for you. Unfortunately they are full when I want to go.

lizski, I was gutted when they said they are full. Try this place, couldnt get any more on the piste, unless you pitched a tent in the middle of one!

thanks DallyPaul, as we have limited time thought to do Morzine another time when we can properly explore whole area.

Have narrowed it down to Les Carroz or Samoens now.

Tried Grand Bornand, but sadly struggled to find someting for our odd days. Will try again next year.

Does anybody have an opinion as to which is best? Most accommodation offer transport to the lifts.

Have one outlier chance of St Gervais as well, but more keen to explore grand Massif.- it looks very manageable for 3 days.

Tried as close as possible to airport, and hope to ski 3 and half days. Love nice towns to stroll in - little bit of shopping.
Doing the quiter more romantic trip with husband as we are planning to take kids to Champoluc in Feb/March.

 snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

Samoens certainly good to stroll in - but Les Carroz would have you on the snow much quicker (and more likely to have snow at resort level) and is also quite a nice place to stroll in, though not as genuinely historic.

the freeride tour in cham has very little effect on the slopes, maybe a few more people in town, but its not really noticable. Its held on the hotel face up brevent so yes you could go up the aiguille du midi if you wanted Smile
