Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi
we are a family of 3 heading to Schladming the last week of Feb. We have booked up independently this year and we are looking at booking tranfers from Salzberg. Can anyone recomend a cost efffective way of doing this? I have looked at Taxi's which quote about 150 euros each way. Any help and advice would be much appreciated.

madmac1, You can get a bus from the airport to the station. If you do a search on Salzburg airport to Scladming on that site, it shows the bus connection. You might be best to get a taxi from the Schladming station to your accommodation, or if staying in a hotel, I would contact them to see if they can help.

The Planai bus company used to meet certain flights and run a shuttle. Not sure if that still exists but have a look on www.planai.at

madmac1, If you look on the Salzburg airport site there is a link to a taxi firm doing transfers for 99e each way for up to 8 people. I did the train with 2 of my boys 14 and 9 at the time, absolutely simple. No 2 from outside the airport to the station 2e each and trains about every 2 hours to Schladming, hotel sorted a taxi from station to the hotel (about 5 mins). The train journey is beautiful, even has a trolley lady, and Harry Potter style old fashioned compartments which got energetic whoops of "anything from the trolley" from my two. Cheers briand6868. The train sounds like a great way to go for the family. Is it best to book a ticket in advance or just on the day at the station.

madmac1, We always buy ours on the day - never had a problem, even on a busy Fasching Saturday.

madmac1, if I were super organised I'd always book in advance and have nice reserved seats. I'm not so therefore I don't always (trains aren't usually overcrowded unless you hit peak times).

madmac1, I booked mine online but only because I had the 2 boys with me and it was the first family diy trip,I wouldn't be bothered one way or the other now. I am travelling quite a bit this season and will be on trains a lot and won't be panicking. Take the train and enjoy getting in the holiday mood with a beer from the trolley, the kids will love it. Thanks again for the replies all. looks like we can book on the day.........and relax & look out the window! We are staying in an apartment in the middle of Schladming run by the Stocker family. Looks lovely. It is our second time out in Scladming and we loved it last year.

We used them I think:

For 53E return trip, airport straight to your hotel door and back is not bad.
Specially that we skied on arrival/departure day.
(only drawback you might way up to 1h for other passengers if they arrive on different flight, as it is shared transfer)

Train is cheaper but you need to drag your suitcases on the bus, train station etc and you probably still need local taxi from Schladming station to your hotel.
