Perhaps would be more appropriate in "Snow Reports", but it is dumping it down with snow here tonight at PSV. Further snow forecast for the next 3 days too!!! looking forward to a powdery new year....

hi Pete just returned from PSV yestoday ,very tricky conditions driving back to Chambrey airport masses of new snow around Briancon but on entering Italy and the maurienne valley the temperature went up and the motorways where covered in black ice ,the worse conditions i have ever driven in, a large number of crashes and near misses ,very dangerous with people not heeding the conditions .The french had taken every step to keep the roads open -loads of of gritters and ploughs .It appears that most UK visitors do not rent chains i was the only person i spoke to who had them there is no way i could have got back over montgenevre without them.
We had a fantastic week in Vallousise/PSV , snow was ok at puy but much better at Pelvoux ,lots of new building at Puy since my last vist and the new Balme run should be great with better snow .It was my first time driving to Vallousie previosly been with snowbizz ,and having a car enabled us to explore local area -what a wonderfull valley it is ,full of character -atotal contrast to PSV 1600.We had a couple of afternoons at Pelvoux ski area -what a great little place 3200 feet of vertical with steep intressting terrain -l day lift pass at £10 -this must be the cheapest lift pass in France wth very good skiing -very quiet with no queues plenty of snowmaking and a great atmosphere ,we will be back next year to also sample the ski de fond

Just got back from a very snowy PSV where the conditions for the last few days were great. Unlike tomf I had a good trip back, only needed the snowchains to get down from 1800 and then had a good 2.5 hour run to Marseille airport. Only black spot during the two weeks was my 7 year old who managed to break his nose on Boxing Day when he hit a rock and catapulted himself into a pole that was holding up some safety netting. After 5 minutes of stemming the blood, like a true Snowhead, he carried on skiing and insisted on going down the slope that caused him the damage. Luckily there wasn't any lasting damage and he managed to ski the rest of the holiday and enjoyed bragging rights with the other youngsters that he met !
