Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Easyjet and boot bags

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,
I am flying with easyjet and wanted to clarify what this years rules were re skis and boot bags. I have booked to take a set of skis but was unsure if I still had to pack my boots in with my main luggage. I thought this may be useful but apologies if this has been done to death already!
Here's my reply from easyjet.

"Thank you for contacting us.

I would like to inform you that ski boots can be packed in hold baggage or taken as a sport equipment. Skis and boots can be packed in two different bags and will still be considered as one item as a package deal.

For more information, please visit the link http://easyjet.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4039.

Thank you for choosing easyJet. Have a nice day".

I am taking my two kids with me and wanted to do the following:

- pay for one sport item and use it to take my boots in a boot bag and my skis in ski bag

- then get kids to place their boots in their suitcases and I put their skis into my ski bag

do you reckon the 3pairs of skis will be too heavy and do they weigh them at the desk or at the special counter at Newcastle Airport which is further down the airport ie round the corner so feasibly I could put in the other two pairs of skis after being weighed but I wasn't sure about the return journey from Geneva

and also do you know if helmets can be placed into hand luggage?

any help appreciated, oh how I wish the charges were lower and simpler

Easyjet's rules seem pretty straight forward. What is not straightforward is whether you will get away with it if you push the rules. Many do - but you are taking pot luck on what will happen if the checking staff spot what you are doing.

what about skis and their weight, does anyone know their average weight?

supasap, It really depends on your skis, weight is a feature of the design some meant to heavy some meant to be light.

Just be aware that for insurance purposes if your bag and skis get damaged/go missing you have only paid for one set. Your insurance could therefore be invalid for all of them. You might get away with claiming for one pair but not recoup the rental/replacement for all of them.

blue, how did you manage to email EJ? I can't find anything on their website - I'm away at half term and would like to carry boots separately to my ski bag, but to avoid complications at the airport I'd like to have it in writing from Easyjet themselves!

Cheers

One thing to watch out for is the weight is done per booking rather than per person. When I take the 2 kids away I make separate bookings for them and me with a ski bag on both so that means we get a 32kg ski bag each, more than paying for 2 ski bags and a case on a single booking http://www.easyjet.com/EN/Planning/baggage
Never had a problem with helmets in or even clipped to the outside of hand luggage

I've taken 3, even 4 sets of skis in one bag on easyjet dozens of times and never had even a raised eyebrow.

Maybe I have been lucky.
