So hope the snow is good, but it is very early season.
What should not be missed on slopes and off
I have never been out so early in the season before. Can only take one set of skis - Slalom or fat boys. I do not want any big holes in the bottom from early conditions as back out in Jan for 2 weeks and then have 2 months in Canada. Plenty of time later so I presume I stay on-piste so early and miss the rocks.

Jake43, have you checked out the Zillertal web cams and snow reports? There is masses of snow and it is really brass-monkey temperatures out there. More snow coming in all of the weekend and next week as well!

Jake43, I guess much depends on what you like to ski and what you like in the apres department. Plenty of people here who know Mayrhofen, so give a bit of a clue.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Jake43, be careful though - that grass under the snow can do fatal damage to your skis! Remember the cover may not be that thick. Just had a text message from a friend in Hochfügen - great skiing but fookin freezing!

Chasseur, Its Daughter that is going taking 350 Uni students so I guess the Apres will be quite important.
Advanced Skiing so that Harakiri sounds like a challenge.

Samerberg Sue, Trying to persuade her to use the old skis and not take the new ones but you know how it is. When you have some new ones you just have to use them & I am worried on an opening weekend they will get wrecked.
It looks cold all week too although some sun and snow. She however used to Canada so I do not think she will notice it too much.

I would miss the lift queue in centre in morning get to lift at 8.00 and the queue at night to get off, have a drink in cafe until it gets short, viscious action near stupid turnstiles sometimes.

Eh? Did I miss something?
Shed loads of Apres options. Several good, noisey, lively bars at the top of the Penken lift for the end of the day - a good option whilst waiting for the download queues to shrink.
Try the Ice Bar at foot of Penken lift - always lively for early apres. Later, try the Sport Hotel for Brian Cristopher, or Scotland Yard or maybe Mo's for a slightly lower volume and chance to chat. There must be many, many others.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I really liked the zell am ziller area and the hinted tux glacier. +1 for the ice bar if that's your thing, I also liked Mo's.

Dinner at Hotel Perauer is particularly good.
The Hexen Kessl in Tux for a few beers apres.
The Schneekar Hutte at top of Schneekar Chair for mid morning gluwein or lunch.
Pizza at Grill Haus Alm next to Vans Park
Ribs or Tiroler Grossl at Vogelsnest (on way to Eghalm)

Echo the recommendations about the Ice Bar and the Sport Hotel. Definitely try Harakiri, it's not for the faint-hearted. No moguls on it though.
Oh and a trip to Hintertux on a clear day is an absolute MUST. Don't go if it's snowing/flat light.
