Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Thinking of a new luxury jacket?

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi People,

Im thinking of buying a new ski / winter jacket for my ski trip in Feb. Was thinking of splashing out on a decent North face jacket. Like the look of the Makahawk jacket but very pricey. Was wondering is it worth it and is there any better jackets out there? I'm not one for wearing loads of layers so the reason behind getting a top of range jacket. Your thoughts would be helpful and apreciated?
Cheers

Luxury? think Kjus, top end Spyder or Willy Bogner. North Face is like Nevica everyboy has one.

Saw Kjus jacket for sale in SH for sale section, new they fetch £700 plus so truly luxury.

Slarkmeister, Edge and Wax had some great Schoffel ski jackets greatly reduced, I got a Schoffel jacket reduced by 50%. I agree with Cynic, I am sure North Face is good, but you do see everyone wearing it.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Swissie, Thanks for that just looked on Edge and Wax but majority of Schoffel jackets are out of stock. You get a lot of jacket for the £ Gonna stay clear of the North face now

Norrona, FlyLow (though more utility and a bit cheaper, but only in price!), Trew, Sweet would all be my personal choice if I was ever thinking (and I hope I never do!) of spanking £400 on a jacket.

You looked at Patagonia? I've been wearing their stuff for years and yet to have a problem with any of it. Not toooo expensive, great quality and you don't see that many people wearing it. Over the pond US/Canada you do, very popular over there, but less so in Europe.

Slarkmeister, if you've got the money and buying this jacket will make you happy then by all means go for it!!!

Personally i love researching and buying gear just as much as i enjoying skiing! As suggested above i would check out gear by norrona, haglofs, mountain equipment, mountain hardware, sweet protection, rab, marmot and mammut to name a few!

Good luck Very Happy

Don't know what size you are but there's a large Arc'teryx Rush Shell on Planet Fear's website for £199, it's £450 everywhere else and is a great jacket (I have one).

Thanks for all the advice. I've ended up buying the Kjus Formula jacket off a fellow Snowhead. Got it for a great price too. Cool

It isn't. They whack 'Summit Series' onto everything now, I remember when it used to mean something; you can get a 'Summit Series' jacket for £120 now.
