Good point. Seems to me that HA are being beaten on price by Auto Europe (who seem to have winter tyres included in many of their deals). We too find the 'Advantage' brand seem to be the Hertz cars that are just a little too shabby to go out under that brand - given that you collect and drop off from the Hertz bays. One of the things that we found last winter was one of the GVA hire outfits (sorry forgotten which 'cos we hire 4 times each season) the chains were in a sealed packet - if you broke them out you were charged, return with seal un-broken no charge. Mostly OK as we usually go up in the Funni from Bourg St Maurice, could see people being tempted not to chain up when they should.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Pretty sure this was the situation with the Advantage car we hired in Geneva.

If it has snow winter/tyres it's very unlikely that you will need chains.
worse case cut through the hinges of the chain box and open it without breaking the seal...

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Just booked last night with Europcar from GVA, winter equipped, and better price than auto-europe or holiday-autos

you probably would if you were driving up to resorts today, given the snow! A friend rented a car at GVA through Advantage in October, with a discount through Civil Service Motoring Association. Was a good deal, and a perfectly good car.

Just back from GVA after using Holiday Autos and Advantage.
As Ian Kenvyn says, the rental was indded Hertz by another name, with the car being damaged/scratched and higher mileage (45,000k) than is usual for a hire car (though everything was fine and it drove well enough). We hired for 4 days at a very reasonable £98 plus a further £30 'winterisation fee' to cover chains and snow tyres. However, on pick up, the Advantage rep informed me that the said fee did not cover snow chains, only snow tyres - so I was charged extra. I am currently pursuing, this via e mail, with Holiday Autos.
The snow chains box was sealed with a cable tie - but there was no mention of there being no charge if the chains were returned unused.
