Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Had a good day's skiing with alex_heney yesterday. We met in Hopfgarten and then skied in the SkiWelt area. The weather was perfect, at least initially, with blue skies and sun. Later in the afternoon it started clouding over and the light became pretty flat.

This time we didn't actually ski to Söll but aimed instead for Ellmau. After going up the Schernthann and Foisching chairlifts we were soon skirting our way round the foot of the Hohe Salve...

The view of the Wilder Kaiser mountains was as impressive as ever, here seen from the piste at the Aualm...

As you can maybe see in the photo above, the machine-prepared pistes were rock-hard, after warm days (we saw +8°C at the Ellmi's 6er lift) and cold nights. In the morning the slopes seemed busier than I would have expected, so there was often the rasping of other skis to be heard as you skied down. Later in the day, where the sun had shone, there were sometime spots that were soft and chopped up but, in the main, everything remained on the icy side. Not the easiest skiing.

For lunch we stopped at the Gasthof Hochschwendt, down by the bottom station of the Schmiedalm T-bar above Ellmau. The food was excellent, Alex enjoying a Bratkartoffel mit Speck und 2 Spiegeleiern (=fried potatoes with bacon and 2 fried eggs) while I tucked into the less elegant Curry-Wurst mit Pommes. The view is looking over to the Brandstadl, at the top of the gondolas up from Scheffau...

We skied down into Ellmau and then started on our way back to Hopfgarten. On the way, as the sun disappeared, we saw the igloo village at Hochbrixen but didn't sample its delights...

All in all, an enjoyable if sometimes testing day.

Currently in skiwelt staying in ellmau. Snow has been manic. Started snowing sat afternoon and only stopped this morning. However so much snow made skiing v difficult. Could only see 100yrds ahead. Slopes in bad condition as Too Much snow. However, today has beenfantastic as the sun peeped out between clouds making skiing great. Headed over to schaffau which is really nice. Blue 61 into gondola is great. If conditions stay as are, it will be great skiing for the nezt week or 2. Great to see snow on trees. V pretty.

We're just back. Yes, visibility was an issue but it kept the slopes quiet and once in the trees it wasn't too bad. I thought that Monday was very good with practically ski anywhere conditions in super light powder.

Also of note - dont know if its been fixed yet but the crucial lift to get you into Ki West and onto Kitzbuhel is knackered. You have to queue up for a skidoo tow instead (great fun).

Currently in Soll enjoying wall to wall sunshine. Temperatures are very warm and due to get warmer. Loads of snow, get up early and avoid the south facing slopes in the afternoon.
