Global cooling? I am not going to say that it will be an epic season because I don't want to be disappointed but the snow is really welcome and lets hope it will provide a good base; temperatures have also dropped, which is good because it was quite warm for this time of the year up until now. I will take the repeat of last season which apparently was average for this part of Alps in terms of amount of snowfall any time. Following two weekends are looking good so far.

spud, ....note that with some global warming scenarios, England gets as cold as Nova Scotia (we are on roughly the same latitude, but with the benefit of the Gulf Stream)...
But
chickens, count, hatch....
Last year we had NO snow in early December. A friend drove his 4WD up to 2500m just behind us in CH, just because he could. It looked like a naff season. Turned out to be HUGE....
Meanwhile, 2010...loads of snow in Nov. Pants at Christmas. Couldn't ski below 2000m. Mud-bath.
So....I also get excited when the white stuff comes. But the day my I let my spirits really lift is the morning after I've arrived in CH, I have to dig my way down the steps and load the car with gear, and the the flakes are massing on the windscreen. Nice.

never summer, over here the ground's been nice and cold and hard ever since the snowfall we had in October - much better than this time last year. Fingers crossed
