Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

[dumb?] snow chain questions

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I am the proud owner [thanks Tyremen] of 195/55/16 snow tyres for my Toyota Pious. In the loft, I have an unused set of snow chains from long past with a range of sizes on the label. The closest numbers to my current tyres are 215/55/16. Will these fit, or do I have to blow the dust out of my wallet once again?

Also, are snow chains put on only the drive wheels?

Unless 195/55/16 is on the box I wouldn't use them. They could come off and damage the car.

Yes snow chains are generally only put on the drive wheels.

Lidl have some cheap but respectable quality chains ta the moment.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Will these fit

If the vehicle and the chains are both at your house, you could try them on? It's not rocket science. You need to ensure the linking wire at the back is well over the back of the wheel (ie not near the running surface) and everything is snug. Drive 50 yards up the road, then back.

You should then have a good idea. If you're not practiced with chains they might seem as though they don't fit, even though they do (when that happens with my chains, I know I've got it wrong, but you might not be so sure). Might need to have a few goes at it.
