Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

On the assumption that there might be someone who has a passing interest in lightweight dynafit-compatible boots and doesn't read Wildsnow:

Best to skip Garmont's response until
after
you've seen the video underneath it.

IMO Garmont have dropped the ball badly anyway. Most competitors products this year are stiffer and tour better. The release thing is pretty scary in Lou's video.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Interesting observation by a guy over on TGR:

Looks like the Cosmos fitting might be the same as the ones used in Garmont's dynafit boots released last year. Suddenly it doesn't seem so bad that I couldn't find any Radiums in my size when I was last boot shopping...

That's pretty shocking. Seems like there needs to be some standard developed for tech fittings in boots.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Yeah, it is all a bit alarming. There was the Salomon Quest debacle not so long ago, and there's been a TGR thread on issues with Tecnica's inserts, too. The latter, at least, don't seem to affect everyone and all of their new fittings have been revised but it isn't confidence inspiring.
Season after next I'll probably be in the market for a much lighter pair of boots than my Cochises. Don't know what they'll be yet, but the chances are they'll have 'official' dynafit inserts rather than third party ones.
