Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Cairngorm is the third best ski resort in Britain.

That snowhole photo is cool.

tomow92, you'll get the full story from Winterhighland but Cairngorm used to have an explosives store and had staff trained to control avalanches. There's a reference above to Anne Angus who is IIRC the person responsible for getting rid of the explosives store plus a whole lot more, basically all part of the disastrous period when Cairngorm lost it's way and was incrementally run down whilst debts rose massively.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I heard the explosives store was accidentally demolished when the train went in, any truth in that?

Prior to the start of the Funicular project there was a two story wooden clad building where the Base Station currently is, there was an explosives store under this building. The demolition of this building was one of the first tangible signs of the Funicular project, but in the infinite wisdom of 'herself' a new explosives bunker was dropped from redevelopment plans because "if you need to control avalanche risk you shouldn't be skiing there in the first place"! rolling eyes

I'll leave it that b4 I get a sore head! Laughing

Its a bloomin' long way, isn't it? I've done the drive once, one way (Oban to Cambridge) and don't really fancy doing it again Sad Just been comparing planes, trains and busses, and mostly decided that I'm living in the wrong part of the world!

Laughing Another project run by people with no understanding of what they are involved with by the looks of things. I see this kind of thing at work all of the time. rolling eyes
