Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Grimentz off piste?

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi, read somewhere that transceivers are necessary to ski off piste in grimentz? Seems unlikely? Anyone have any info on this? Thanks!

jules444, No mandatory safety equipment requirements for offpiste in Grimentz. In Zinal you are supposed to have a Transceiver to get through the gate to the Freeride area. Gate can be bypassed.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thank you for your reply snow bunny, not actually for myself, for my other half. And also thanks for the advice about having the correct equipment, carbon copy. My partner has skied for over 30 years without a transceiver ( I don't believe they go back that far) but he always checks the avalanche risk and doesn't go off piste if its even slightly risky. Not at all. But thanks for that..

Erm.. Thanks everyone, I think!! Not sure who the posh punter was meant to be? Me or person who has the finger on the question mark???????? Ha ha. But seriously, Its not for me, I don't do off piste, don't consider myself good enough. And t' other half doesn't do anything extreme these days, getting too old ha ha. For the record, I agree off piste always risky! Wish he wouldn't do it but I understand why he does as I'm sure all you other off-ers must!

jules444, as you may have picked up by now, for a very long time people have been encouraged to have an avalanche transceiver (and shovel and probe) if they ever ski off piste. All resorts frown on people going off piste without them, but very few places in Europe actually say you have to have them.
PS They have been commercially available since 1971
