Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi, needing advice for a new board for my daughter. She is 21yo, 4'10" and 45kg has been riding for 10yrs. She carves and charges hard on piste and rides powder, not so much park.
The requirements for the board are all mountain/freeride, not too flexi, needs to carve in variable conditions. Not too stiff as she needs to demo at low speeds.
Not jib or freestyle decks.
Her current board is 139.
All info appreciated. Thanks.

Mollerski, have you tried posting this in the snowboarding forum? Maybe it might get the attention of more boarders?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Mollerski, your daughter sounds like a pretty experienced snowboarder; she probably has more idea than most SHs. Or is it a secret Christmas present?

She needs to immigrate to japan for a special pow and piste board with her low weight ,foot size and narrow stance width .
Japan has a big range of exactly what you are looking for .
Anything you get in that lenght is more than likely going to be a freestyle twin like the rapture from ride or the other big players like burton or k2 if sold in the uk.
Look for 25mm setback or whatever you can get in setback ...if its zero setback... its a spin spin twin...not a directional brd which is suited to freeride piste speed and pow.
This may not exist though in some brands.
Burton has the directional feelgood in 144 or 140 v-rocker and slots too setback the bindings further and adjust stance width very easily.
Some sort of early nose lift or nose rocker will give a shorter running or contact lenght for easy turn initiation and release in a longer board and also powder nose lift off piste.
Camber carves as does larger sidecuts on piste ,the v and banana rocker are more low speed versitaility but also do float off piste.
I don,t buy into v rocker from a hard piste carve perpective.
Always check the stance width will suit her with a tape measure on the bolt holes because of her tiny size height etc if its not a burton brd many are very wide.
The waist width for her foot/boot size may be relavant too.
Get a brd short list going that is possible to buy with your budget then its easier to sift out the worst options.
Nothing can prepare you fully other than riding it although a good shot at the specs helps alot if you do it enough.
You can do some easy like the setback others are more work like flex or torsional flex so she must ride that flex or demo on a mountain.

We'd picked up on the Ride Farah, but are slightly worried that it'll be too stiff.
Ride Compact was another consideration.
