I don't know how much "stuff" you can get in a double ski bag, or more to the point ....
How much stuff Easyjet will let me get away with.
and in it I put ..
2 pairs of skis,
1 pair of poles,
1 pair of ski boots,

Still comes in at less than 15kg.

A friend of mine was asked to open his ski bag at the airport as it was a trifle heavy. He had 7 frozen chickens in there.

Aha!
Markymark29,
Glad to meet a 2 pairs of poles person!
Scuse my ignorance ... but what are "Quiver Killers"
Bubble wrap seems like a good idea, I'll put that on my list
I'm going to but in a "file" as well then ... to round off those little nicks on the tails of the skis.
I wont bother with the skins though and all that "tuff stuff" like shovels etc.
Yep we must not forget to put in all the electricity type stuff ... I put in a 4 gang extension lead as well.

To be honest I don't know ... I may have to wear them.
Well I'm only going for a week.

DrLawn,
I have just tried to fit mine in, successfully fitting a single boot in! So in standard student/ski bum style decided that was good enough!

My comfy slippers go over the ski tips
I did some extremely creative work with cardboard boxes and gaffa tape last year to keep mrs sev112's nasty bindings from damaging my lovely new skis
lots of bubble wrap definitely

put them in your normal hold luggage but absolutely squish them full with socks, undies, base layers etc - its amazing how much stuff you will fit in them. Same goes for any other shoes you take and your helmet, if you have one.

DrLawn, Quiver Killers (other brands of threaded inserts are available) allow you to do this:
I usually fly with at least two pairs of skis in one bag plus two pairs of bindings wrapped separately, a bag of tools, two sets of poles and a lot of extra bubble wrap. I sometimes sneak in an inflatable roof-rack too!
|
|
|
|
|
You know it makes sense.
|
Oh!
So "Killer Quivers" are the threaded inserts to screw the binding down to ...got it!
My wife's not coming with me on this trip, but we usual get her skis and all the boots in a rollie golf bag.
She uses 123cm skis Atomic ETL which are a sort of "fun carver" ..... which are dead easy to ski on (I've borrowed them for the Fridge a couple of times).

80 items---that was the total last time I ran thro my checklist. That's case and skibag combined. But if you took "shirts 4 " and counted all four then i guess it's a lot more. Isn't life complicated.

altis, That's an interesting carpet. 30 inch widths, sewn together ? Classic stuff. I had a green one like that . Came from auction at a lordly residence nearby, dated 1956. Always had a musty smell, but perhaps that's the aristocracy.
Skis are interesting, too. The 922 Atomics ? ...touring ? Then a grey one ...Piste ?/. And the fatter one ? Mission ?

Farley Goode, the 9.22s are Mrs A's and she still uses them for everything. Underneath are my Line Darksides - ostensibly park skis but I use 'em for most things. The bases are nearly worn through now though. And on the bottom are my Kneissl Tankers which ought to get more use than they do. All have inserts to take Fritschis. That photo was taken in early 2006 (long before Quiver Killers came on the scene) and the brass inserts are still doing fine.
Those are office carpet tiles in a room I used to 'rent' as a workshop.

altis, Ah, carpet tiles. I should have sleuthed a little closer.
More seriously, these insert things, I have never come across them before. Binding fixing was just some technical magic the man in the shop did. So it's quite normal for some of you to insert these and unscrew your bindings for transit ? And what aboout re-screwing ? does it need a certain torsion and how does one judge that ?.

3 x snowboards, 2 x 2 boots, 2 sets of bindings and as many small items we can squeeze in the gaps. Unbelievably, we've done this many times without query.

I'll have to have a closer look at my bindings, I think they come of as a lump on some "smartrack" gizmo.
Maybe I will be able to go to the ball?

Just remember to mark the position with some tape or something BEFORE you move them

Hi altis !
I've worked it out now .. The bindings just slide off these skis and they are a doddle to set the sizes.
I've also just checked in the Ski kit with Easyjet ... gosh they are tight!
Its £27 each way to take the skis so they is going to be some seriously creative packing.
+ £18 for a bag in the hold both ways.
I do think they are taking the mickey with the Sports kit costs.
Grumble Grumble

Its that time of year again, when we are counting sleeps and looking at the weather forecast.
Packing the ski bag was always a problem but now Crystal have a limit of 15kg, that would have always been tight but I have even more crap to take with me these years.
