Hi all,
Am wondering someone can offer some suggestions. I am after a smallish apartment (me, wife and baby son, 1 bedroom would be sufficient) for a week in Courchevel (1850 or 1650) just after French school holidays finish, Mar 16.
I am struggling to find anything suitable! Now, I know the resort is expensive - I have been there many times, hence why I am returning - but quotes of £4k+ for a week don't make sense to me!
I don't want to do a package tour/chalet/hotel as our dietary requirements make it far easier for us to self cater. Plus with the baby, having access to a kitchen would be helpful. My wife won't be skiing as much as me so she'll be with baby in apartment for chunks of the day, so somewhere modern and larger than a shoebox is a prerequisite.
I've checked owners-direct but most of the properties on there are too large or look like they were last furnished in the 1960's!
Any and all suggestions (apart from change the resort) would be very welcome! budget is ~ £2-2.5k.
TIA

Wow Courchevel is expensive. I just had a quick look on the Courchevel web site (I assume that gangstarrrrr, tried there first) and 40m2 apartments are 2300 euros for a week. It is a bit tricky to figure out exactly where the apartments are since they changed the names of the villages and I cannot recall the new ones.

nor to me. Does it have to be Courchevel? You could get a nice 2 bed apartment for 10% of that in a more sensibly-priced resort.

Thats actually in La Tania, but it IS Courchevel Valley, is 2 lifts from 1850, and may be a good option give the OP's requirements for access, child-friendliness, ease of changeover of parent etc.
Gangstarrrr if you want to PM me, I can give you some contacts in La Tania, but who may have places in Courchevel proper and can help.

Have used PV many times in the past around different French resorts and may well use them if I find nothing else, they have apartments in 1850 for around £1600/week but have read some pretty mixed reviews about them...

Hells Bells, It's not obvious at all, it only because I know the building, the area outside it and recognise the photo! They are being a bit disingenuous as it's quite a way down the listing before La Tania is even mentioned and it does list at the top, as being in Courchevel

gangstarrrrr, The Forum apartments are quite nice in 1850 - I used to rep them when I worked in Courchevel and they were of a good standard. The Golf in 1650 is a lot more basic and pretty 1980s...
You could also try Les Montagnettes in 1650 - a bit further from the slopes but the apartments are built in a chalet style and they are not bad either. http://www.montagnettes.co.uk/

gangstarrrrr, It looks like it is down in St Bon not in 1850 though... St Bon is bit of a pain to be honest as you have to take the bus up to at least Le Praz and they are not that regular...

Also when you say Courchevel, how general are you being? That's not even at 1300?

Preference is 1850/1650 (for now) as my wife and I know those places well.

A friend of mine has 2 apartments in 1650 that he lets out, I used them many a time before I had my own place here. Can definitely recommend, think they'd be ideal for you.

gangstarrrrr, what is it that is attracting you to go to the 3V's and specifically 1650/1850 in your situation? From what I can tell you will be skiing alone most of the time, with your wife having a dabble now and again while you look after the bab. Seems to me you could head to somewhere less extensive with cheaper accomodation and lift pass. We've young kids (now 5 & 7) and last year we went to La Norma and this xmas are going to Les Contamines. Somewhere like La Rosierre would be another possible. The most we have spent for an apartment for me, the wife and two kids in Oz-en-Oisans (ADH) twice, Les Coches (Paradiski) twice, Les Menuires, La Norma is 500 Euros. This is either going at christmas or easter. Granted most were sofa beds+bunks but even so even £2k is crazy money IMO for 2 adults and a baby. In support of what I said earlier the La Norma apartment was much bigger.

Its more familiarity than anything else. We've both been there quite a few times and as we're taking a baby on his first ski trip we thought going somewhere we knew well would help make things a little easier.
Agreed that the price differentials are startling, certainly by the time we're forced to go at half term, its safe to say Courchevel will be closer to the bottom of our list!

Surprised you're ruling out ownersdirect so quickly -
http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/france/FR9247.htm - 2 bedrooms and £850 for the week
http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/france/FR8920.htm - 38M sq studio and £700
http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/france/FR5169.htm - sounds like it's ski in/outish off the belvedere run - again £700
loads of places in la tania - http://www.latania.co.uk/apartments/CHECK/searchDates.php
Good luck
