Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

We're flying in to Munich and have accommodation booked in St.Anton we could hire a car, but I was looking at train. On paper it looks simple, but are there any pitfalls does anyone have any experience?

train from Munich Airport to Munich Hauptbahnhof, then one from there to Innsbruck, and finally change for one to St. Anton

bahn.de may be helpful

biggest pitfall is.... make sure you choose the right St. Anton Wink

Nick-o, very easy train journey, as andy says - German/Austrian public transport is excellent and always on time. Make sure you go to St Anton am Arlberg, not any of the other St Antons, though in reality it's probably harder to find the wrong train than the right one.

Very easy train connections at Innsbruck from Munich. Did the trip 2 years ago. No need for a car rental. Let the German's and the Austrian's do the driving! We spent a few days in Munich first. Took a very early train from Munich 7AM or so, and I was on the slopes just afternoon for a half day of skiing.

If you can hire a car it's a very easy drive with a mix of autobahn and motorway and about 2 to 2.5 hours. Also having a car is great as you can head up to Lech and Zurs for a great days skiing too.

Not much problem getting to Lech without a car, though - you can do most of it on skis (or all of it, part off piste), or all on the bus if you prefer.

Just been looking at OEBB and DeBahn rail prices, anyone else noticed they seem to have rocketed!? I'm looking for March and admitedly they are not on sale yet so been looking mid February and they are really expensive..........is that because its 1/2 term?

Any observations/ thoughts? Shocked

A friend and I took the train from Innsbruck to Munich last year. As we were in a rush, I bought both our tickets, and was amazed at how much cheaper it worked out to be (only slightly more than the fare for one person). Would never have known about this, otherwise - no obvious posters alerting us (or perhaps there were but in German!).
You can also take a slower train from Munich to Innsbruck which goes directly past some interesting resorts including Garmisch (Germany's biggest), Mittenwald and Seefeld if you want to ski somewhere else on your way to or from St Anton. Train was just about quiet enough for us to change from ski gear to flying-home gear!
There's a map which shows how all the resorts are connected by rail - the SkiRail Map of the Alps.

We hire a car from Munich as we like to go to Lech as well and the bus is always full, car hire is pretty cheap but the journey can be a pain, 3 hrs minimum and up to 5 when it gets busy. Remember to buy your vignette as soon as you enter Austria.
