Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Vorarlberg area in Austria - Montafon

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi
Has anyone been to the Montafon area in the Vorarlberg (Austria)? We are considering it at Christmas and I would be very interested to hear what people think of the area, what town/village to stay in, hotel recommendations, snow conditions experienced, whether we need a car and so on?
Thanks
Nigel

I have been there lots, it's lovely. The skiing is great, but it's a bit quiet at night. A car is pretty useful if not essential if you want to ski all the areas. Don't know about hotels we always stayed B+B.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks jbob, I am reading on their website that there is a post bus service across all of the villages? What town did you stay in?

We stayed near Schruns which is the main town. The Schruns ski area is good but the larger Silvretta Nova area is up the valley. Be sure to have a day at Gargellan it's smaller but it's a little jewel. You could get away without a car but if you have the option it a good idea. The on hill food is great.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

As jbob says, a car is useful. Montafon is split into a number of smaller areas, and to get the most out of the ski area then try them all Smile

nigels: While en route to other places, we've skied daytrips at Schruns and Golm.

We loved Schruns - quite varied and extensive, with a somewhat unusual wooden, rustic, apres ski bus (at least when we were there) at the foot of the access chair that we used. The area also features 'Europes' longest ski tunnel' Laughing....

We skied Golm in March on a whiteout day - so didn't see a thing. Access was easy enough and the area seemed ok - but we would like to have seen it on a nicer day...Found a nice mountain restaurant at the top - big, bright and spacious.
