Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Doesn't that exemplify most GP practices.

'Do as I say not do as I do'.

It kind of does, but I'm going for the opposite angle- that GP's will recommend routine self-care (for psychological health) to patients, but not themselves. Smoking, drinking and fast food are for another day wink

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Humpfknick, not sure about that - my experience is that we GPs do tend to refer others for counseling/CBT , or at least as much of it as the local therapy/MH services will provide, and then fail to seek timely help ourselves.

I, for one, am aiming to drink less and injure myself less in 2014 snowHead

So - I hope you are starting with an open mind on what you will find and will not weight your questionnaires/interviews in the way which seems so common in social sciences.

stoat of the dead, I agree, and that's exactly what I'm saying! GP's use the available services as much as they can fir their patients but not themselves, and there's ample research to support the hypothesis. The focus is on the rates of burnout and attrition among GP's, and potential strategies to reduce these in a cohort who are under a myriad of pressures every day, so that their own self-care fades into the background. I'm also including a piece on role-modelling for self-care within the medical & surgical communities. The pilot project is underway already (an abbreviated mindfulness programme for trainee gp's), and has been really well received Smile
