Poster: A snowHead

Yesterday I make a little trip to Vorarlberg and passing of the new valfagehrbahn... I was marvelled about it. It looks wonderful, really good. Maybe it become a new sight at the Arlberg-Pass-road But look yourself at http://stantonamarlberg.blogs.com
It´s brilliant, isn´t it?
See (read) you....

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

It's probably long overdue, but I do worry that it'll make Rendl busier.
Sitting on the "chair of contemplation" on a cold snowy day was always a bit of an ordeal.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Oh... I think you are wrong. The Valfagehrbahn isn´t on rendl it is in Alpe Rauz (near Stuben).

barbarella, sorry, I meant Stuben not Rendl. I always get the two of them mixed up.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Ok... I hope it´s not the way that you written, that Stuben then is more busier... Hope so

It will make the cross-over busier, IIRC the area properly. The limiting factor was the long chair back or the bus. Now skiers will have a more plausible circuit with fast access back to St A.

I'm glad they are replacing it but it would be a shame if Stuben got busier as a result.

Doesn't exactly enhance the mountain environment does it

Peter S,
It doesn't really make it any worse either, considering it is replacing an existing lift

The mountain environment could be enhanced by removing all the lifts, would anybody support this?
It would be interesting to compare the electricity consumption figures for the new and old lift.
The electricity to power the lift probably comes from hydro generation anyway.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I was thinking about the landscape really, rather than the power source or indeed the amount of embodied energy in the project.
Presumeably the new lift is replacing something with a much lower visual impact ie. lower pylons, smaller base and terminal stations, less earth works etc, it certainly looks that way from the photos.
.........................However I'm just in the process of booking a holiday to St Anton so I'll just have to forget my hypocracies for a while. I guess i wont be able to see much of the lift ...from the lift

Amazing how they construct and design the lifts around the Alps

I would support it in some resorts that have been flooded with lifts with no concern for the enviroment .(alot of french resorts !!)
