Women's slalom - 4 of the Hopefuls improved their overall scores with Dr Che achieving overall top spot for the race on 51.25 points
Men's slalom - best score was codyaitch with 7/10 for 37.00 points
The Nymans have put through some score amendments - in most cases adding or removing 7.25 points to correct points (not) awarded for selections outside top 30
Scores at the end of week 8
Samerberg Sue - 42.05 - 2nd in Ger - 66th overall
WayneC - 39.65 - 7th in GB - 116th overall
davkt - 33.50 - 2nd in Arg - 408th overall
andy - 42.80 - 1st in Ger - 47th overall
Dr Che - 42.75 - 4th in GB - 48th overall
codyaitch - 45.90 - 1st in GB - 11th overall
Fattes13 - 40.85 - 1st in Ire - 104th overall
kooky - 32.20 - 13th in Aus - 507th overall
briand6868 - 35.35 - 3rd in Ire - 307th overall
Hopefuls team score 39.45 - 8th overall
Top individual score to date 45.90 - last year 7 Hopefuls had higher final scores - the highest being 54.75 points - clearly much more difficult to predict top 10 finishers this season

Julia Mancuso is taking part in the races at Altenmarkt this week. She announced that she was going back to the States after the last speed events and missed the GS at Lienz as a result. She went back to have a break and to sort out equipment problems - switching to Head in an Olympic season was may be not such a good idea after all! She apparently had problems with a service man last season but I'm not sure if it was a Völkl (her previous ski sponsor) one or not.
Any way she is back and competing in the Downhill and Super Combination this weekend. She has to get a result in the Super Combination in order to qualify for the event in Sochi I suppose. FIS has been playing silly bug[i]/i]gers with the qualification criteria for the races in order to permit more skiers to participate from non-Alpine nations - not sure if places like the Central African Republic or Burkina Faso actually have any skiers, let alone speed event specialists! If they do not revert to the previous qualifying criteria, even Ted the Shred will not be able to take part and I believe he is the defending champion!!!!

We're not doing too badly with 3 of us in top ten in GB and 1 and 2nd in Ger... And it also depends on others not doing as well as my 51.25 from the Rockfest was only 32nd place that week...but it was top score this week for the good Dr.
Thanks for Vicky R tip, removed from picks...

I've been told that Chemmy can take part in he Super-G if she wants to and then "ski out" of the slalom leg. Apparently the rule about training for the race applies only to the Downhills, which I can understand when the race starts lower down. However, I'm fairly sure that the Zauchensee one starts from the same hut as the section below that is really way too flat to start a speed race and moving the start to a point where it makes sense would make it a really short race! Any way I'll find out for sure when I go over to watch tomorrow!
Saw photos yesterday of Vicky training at Reiteralm for GS, so I suppose that will be her focus in the Olympics.

The old log in problem is back I've notified Michael Nyman and he has passed on the info to the programmers.
Anyone who can log in before tomorrows races - Kathrin Zettel is out of the Super Combination tomorrow - bad back and hip pain.
Chemmy is not racing tomorrow which means that everything now hangs on Cortina and Garmisch, although I think the GAP races are after the deadline for Sochi. Has anyone heard or read anything as to why she did not race at Zauchensee?
Another piece of news, Julia Mancuso's sister, the Freerider Sara Mancuso, had bad fall while skiing off piste with her sister, the team doctor and some other team members in the new snow at Zauchensee yesterday. She was airlifted to Schwarzach Hospital where it was shown she had fractured the 2nd and 3rd thoracic vertebrae. I've seen a picture of one of her x-rays, they do not seem to be displaced. Apparently Julia spent most of last night with her sister in the hospital, so not a bad result today for her really. She will be shipped back to the USA by air ambulance or on a stretcher in First Class as soon as she is no longer dependent on IV pain killers.
Here's a link to Sara Mancuso's blog on Farcebook for those of you who have it: https://www.facebook.com/SmokeyJonesMusic/posts/10153701208760080 It is an interesting read.

I haven't checked all of todays scores but I don't think any Hopefuls have improved their scores - will update all scores after the weekend races.
Samerberg Sue, thanks for the update on Kathrin Zettel - now removed from my picks.
I often get pointed to old scores when I first sign in - I sign out (drop down under 'Hey name') and sign back in which takes me to the current scheme - it works for me if you have a similar access problem

Ouch @ that crash.
Found a "feature" on the FSR web pages when doing picks. On a netbook with a small screen the bit where you "drop" racers to when dragging/dropping, doesn't scroll. So I don't know what my 9th and 10th place picks are without cross referencing the available skiers.
Still a long way to go this season. Sadly being #1 means theres only one way to go.

codyaitch, I still cannot get into the system so it is all academic for me at the moment.
I was intending to go over to the Zauchensee today, but was woken up in the night with a massive migraine. So took my tablets sent a message (I think) to those I was meeting up with and slept until it died back enough for me to get out of bed! Maybe next year I'll make it!
I'll definitely be at the Garmisch races for the Ladies and may even make some of the training days for the Men as well. Sadly I'll miss the actual race days as I'm off skiing for the week with Queen Bodecia,

codyaitch, the funny thing is, I did NO research for this weekends racing, didn´t check start lists or form over the last few years at that race track, just plonked a few names down and got my best results for the season in all 3 races
From now on, that´s my strategy!

kooky, certainly the best option for the slalom this morning - the course layout and the snow conditions made the second run in particular a lottery so a 'lucky dip' choice rather than form was more workable

codyaitch, can you access the site and if so, can you tell me which browser and OS you are using please?
I'm still unable to get in as the page is automatically reloading all the time. This is a problem that occurred before when they try and change something or introduce a new feature. Seems that the original program coding is more than a little bit flakey according to Michael Nyman and they are trying to gradually get rid of it.

Samerberg Sue, Apart from the occasional 'sign out' and 'sign in' requirement described above I haven't had any issues with accessing the site for some time.
My usual access is at home via my Sky Broadband Wi-Fi on my laptop using Vista and Internet Explorer but I also access the site using my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 - both bits of hardware connect almost instantly.

I cannot connect using my iPad at all. I'm in contact with Michael right now so knowing if anyone else is having problems it is useful to know the OS, the browser(s) and the versions.
I cannot get IE to accept any of my ID information so there is a glitch there on my machine which is why I rarely use IE.

I get a problem logging on at work where the log in screen keeps recycling faster than you can type. So I press the red cross which stops the recycling and let's me log on. Think it's window7 and IE 8 but not sure I'll check tomorrow.

Samerberg Sue, I was mistaken ... at work we're still on XP professional with IE8 (i know its' not supported by lots of websites and we're updating soon! ) .
At home have Win 7 and IE9 on a laptop and a iPad 1.
With the iPad 1 that's not supported by Appple now either and wont upgrade past iOS 5
but I can log on with all three and all work ok atm... although on IE 8 i have to click the red cross to get it to stop loading automatically before I can fill in the box...

At the top of the screen, next to the address box in the header. Mouse-over says "Stop (Esc)" so I suppose Esc might do the same thing... I have to wait until the log in box appears then click the red cross, then it pauses long enough to type in the details.
