Evening all - consider Bernadette Schild as an outsider for Flachau Sl tomorrow, starting to come into really good form according to an informed source, well outside the top 30 so think bonus points, ladies sl is a difficult one at the moment with lots of "unknowns" popping up. |
Good call on the first run

Hardly creamed - You were 3rd overall for the race with 40.75
And 4 of us got 31.25 for 45th
Still 8th but our score has increased from 49.194 to 49.2 - probably due to Sue improving on her 5th best score by 0.25

Samerberg Sue, Have a thing about Kirchgasser and rarely put her in as she's too in consistent for me - a bit like your buddy Bode ! Real hot or only slightly tepid. Any tips for the combined in Wengen, nothing coming through from my sources although Fattes 13 is racing FIS this weekend so may get a bit of gossip, I'll be on to him tomorrow so i'll let folks know what I hear.

I'm trying to keep the faith with Kirchgasser, but it is getting hard.
I've had a report that Bode is definitely out for the whole season. He wants his knee fully recovered before he starts to train and focus on Sochi.
Not picked up on any tidbits, but I have some friends in Cortina for the training and races so they are going to pass on any tips. I've not heard anything from Wengen so all bets are on. I'm going for experience to be honest as that is a long hill with lots places where you can lose lots of time with the wrong moves. If I hear anything, I'll pass it on as soon as I can.

So got a naff score in the men's SC, and a reasonable score in the men's DH , but not one of my top5 scores. Somehow that made me move one place up in Germany (makes no sense), and down one place overall (this can make sense).
Samerberg Sue, is now #1 in Germany, and I'm #5. Did someone drop out maybe? Not complaining.
In theory, moving up the table should start getting pretty tricky, since you need a rather outstanding result to affect the average of 5 best scores.
(edit: also got a mediocre score in the women's DH)

andy, Had mediocre results in the last 3 races but moved up to 7th overall, so maybe something happened. Great racing in Wengen though, pity about Svindal and Janka both in my top 10 and both dnf. Still looking forward to the slalom tomorrow and the ladies race from Cortina, a place that is deffo on my hit list for a visit over the next couple of seasons.

andy, I don't think anyone has dropped out as such, but like last year, early enthusiasm means after the Christmas/New Year break people stop predicting or simply forget to return.
I did well in a couple of races yesterday, but today's results were a mixed bag to say the least! I did not think hard enough about the Wengen slalom to be honest and only just survived!

Great race from Wengen. Shame there wasnt much more on eurosport this w/e but i had varying results with 6/10 with 2 exact for Men's DH, 5/10 with 2 exact for women's DH, but then only 15pts for SC, 19 for Slalom, and 22.5 for SG, So dropped a place to 14th Gb and 279 overall. So Seems you must get good scores to move up but can easily drop down, and with all the averages, a few poor scores would drop a place..

For the top 10 game, it's only you 5 best scores that count, so anyone that just forgets to do anything after christmas will only drop down the table as other people get better scores. They won't drop down by having a whole load of zeros. So I can't see how I went up the table with a score that was about my 10th best?
In a way it's good - means anyone can sign up mid way through the season, and not be at a disadvantage (other than having less attempts at getting 5 good scores).
pretty mediocre score in the ladies SG, but reasonably high rank from it (so I guess a lot of people got mediocre/bad scores). Men's slalom was one of my worst. Still have the same score, rank, and country rank.

Pretty rubbish weekend on mens races for me, though managed to creep up one place overall thanks to an OKish score on the ladies downhill. But good to see we are holding onto 8th overall.

davkt, Not great from me either, quite a few of my "certainties" let me down but pulled in a few outsiders, still at 7th overall so lots of folks must have found this weekend difficult.

Think the FSR website is knackered.
All I get is a 500 Server Error when logging in. Refresh home page and the bit at the top right shows me logged in but has the boxes for me to type in user/passwd again, as well. Strange.
Need to do more picks before the s9BB too.

Innerhofer has been relegated to a start number of 45 for ***tomorrow's Downhill He fell during the last training run at the Mausefälle then put on his skis again and re-started after asking one of the pisteurs. He then carried on skiing through a yellow flag, only stopping when the second one was waved at him. He was also fined 999 Ch. Francs!
Silly mistakes but he's been on the circuit long enough to know better. Whether he can make top 10 from there remains to be seen, I might just change my selection.
Lots of overnight snow apparently, so that may delay the start and throw up some interesting results.
*** Edited to correct my mistake about which race was involved. He went like a bat out of hell just now in the Super G as he is obviously mad about the decision to relegate him tomorrow! Does anyone know why bib 45 was chosen as I think that there are more than 45 racers taking part tomorrow?

For those of you thinking ahead and doing your picks before going on holiday, beware of selecting your choices for the Schladming races until the various teams have been announced.
Each country is only allowed to enter 4 people per country, per discipline plus the defending champion if the have the gold medallist still racing. So the Austrians have a selection problem in most disciplines - Benni Raich for example needs to pull something special out of the bag over the next few days to make it for sure in any of his disciplines.

6 plus 1 exact. Reasonable score, I guess, but it's getting to that stage now where improving overall is getting harder. Need at least 7 plus 2 exact and maybe a bonus minimum now to make any inroads.

I managed to get 7 out of 10 and 2 exact - mind you with 3 tied for 7th place that was not as difficult as usual! Currently I'm still holding on to 1st in Germany.
Congratulations to briand6868, now holding 1st place in Austria. No mean feat, even if kooky had occupied that position before him!
For Schladming, forget trying for the ranked above 30/finished Top Ten points unless you have a very strong suspicion that the racer is on a roll. Not that many racers ranked above 30 will get a look in in the team selections to be honest.

kooky, I've kept him in my selections even after the relegation. The way he raced today showed how angry he feels and his "apology" to the FIS for his earlier comments was hardly one of someone who believes he has been justly punished. I've moved him down the order as it will be hard work for him to get a podium. Most of the course will be in shadow by the time he races, so the course will be slowing down by then. Perhaps anger alone might not be enough for a podium.

kooky, Sorry D , got bored being numero uno in Ireland so went back to my adopted homeland and got placed 1 aswell.
In relation to Innerhofer I think he's still worth a gamble and have him at 10, a lot depends on how the track holds up but I have it from one of the forerunners that it is like nothing he has ever skied on in his life - bulletproof isn't even close !!! and also as Samerberg Sue says light will play its part as he will be starting about 1.5 hours after the first racer but he is a real class act so I won't be too surprised if he comes good. I'm lucky that I'm reasonably high in the overall so I'm going to have a flutter on 2 relative outsiders David Poisson and Andrej Sporn, both experienced racers that have shown good form recently and whom I was very impressed with in Wengen.
Best of luck to everybody, I had an invitation during the week to watch the race in Dublin with members of the Irish/Austrian society but unfortunately Mrs briand is away so I can't oblige
