Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I think this may suit a few SH's so I thought I would pass it on

IASI 12 week course is £475 and runs on Wednesday evenings 7pm – 9:30pm on the below dates. Candidates who miss up to two sessions due to holiday or sickness will be able to make up the training through arrangement with xxx our Head of Snowsports at no extra cost. If you miss more than two sessions then you will need to pay £39 and join our Tuesday evening instructor session:

If you cant take a whole week off work this may be a good option.

Thanks, skimottaret.

Damn, they're not doing BASI over two weekends option anymore!

I just had a look at this and there are no dates available to actually book onto the 12 week IASI course. If anyone knows when this is actually happening I might be interested.

I saw that a little while ago, but how does IASI fit into the even more complex world of ISIA/BASI, etc?

Colin IASI is the Irish equivalent to BASI. But they are also the National Governing Body for snowsports in Ireland

Their L3 award is granted the ISIA stamp as per BASI's so little difference really but they are quite a bit more practical on how they go about things , offering evening courses is one of them

little ms spock, contact gilleski

skimottaret, Ta, their website is pants, hard to work out how you progress from there. L2 looks to be several different courses unless I'm reading it wrong. http://www.iasisnowsports.ie/

Colin B, you can see requirements here. They are broadly similar to BASI, but with some differences here and there. For L2 there is a on-snow course of 6 days which will assess teaching and technical performance, plus 70 hours of logged ski school experience and a valid 1st aid certificate.

rob@rar, Thanks, I saw that but was confused by the calendar which includes courses on Level 2 Back Country Security, Level 2 Ski Training, etc. Perhaps they are something different?

Colin B, unfortunately the nomenclature is often confusing as different strands such as teaching, coaching and mountain safety don't line up. So the level 2 backcountry security is actually a part of the Level 4 instructor training. The Level 2 training is an optional (I believe) week of training that you can do prior to the Level 2 instructor assessment.

Laughing It's confusing because some strands only start until you have made progress in other areas. For example, you don't have to pass any mountain safety modules until you begin your L3 instructor modules, so the L1 Mountain Safety qualification is part of the L3 instructor qualification.

I thought they looked overkill for L2!

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

The mountain safety courses are stand alone qualifications. So there are two levels of off piste qualification.

So you can be a level 2 instructor with a level 1 off piste qualification as an example. Each off piste course also has a name (so think of it that way rather that the number)

Off piste security (the first course so also level 1)

Back country security ( the second course also level 2)

There have been some changes since my presentation in the names but this is roughly how it is

I'd seen that the other day, but I wasn't sure the comparison with BASI. Good to know, thanks.
