Short notice I know but I've just found out that there's a bumps clinic at Xscape Castleford tomorrow from 10.00am to 4.00pm.
It's being run by the current UK moguls champion (can't remember his name) & there's a max of 20 people. As at 6.00pm tonight there were 6 places left.
Cost is £45.
Min entry std is to be able to ski parallel controlling speed & line.
A helmet is compulsory but they're available on foc loan from Xscape.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

slikedges, I guess it'd ruin the surprise if they told you.

I vote for using the boarders who're sat around the slope.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

slikedges,
They build them at the side of the slope.

How do you build bumps? Is there a machine that does it? I'm not talking about the irregular shaped/sized bumps that develop naturally, but the perfectly formed and spaced bumps that you get in competitions. Are these done by machine or are they carelully built up by pisteurs skiing on them taking very controlled lines?

rob@rar.org.uk,
I believe they are built partly by machine (pushing the snow around) and partly with a shovel.

Certainly does for a bumps clinic for 20 punters rather than a hotdogging competition with a potential satellite audience of millions.

Went to the bumps clinic today & it was superb. Too knackered to do a proper write up but being taught by an ex Moguls World Champion was an experience
There's going to more (& also at MK) & I'm on the mailing list so I'll advise when known.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

spyderjon, have a good rest, then spill the beans please! I'll definitely be interested if they put it on at MK. Who do I need to contact to get on the mailing list?

Tried to call MK to see if they were planning anything similar, but after waiting over 10 mins to get through, the girl didn't know what a bumps clinic was or heard of one. I tried to explain, but was asked 'What's a mogul then?' Gave up after that.

You know it makes sense.

i saw the moguls the other week they build... very big they were too!
If it wasnt for those horrid helmets you have to wear Id have a go myself, how did we ever manage before health and safety?

slikedges, The course was run by a guy called Peter from http://www.freestylesnowsports.co.uk/british/index.html
Peter instructed along with a French guy called Eric Bertron who's an ex moguls World Champ. Damn they were good. I'll advise when I hear more.
mac, We even had the same problem when we got there yesterday morning to register.
Royal, Deb took a heavy fall yesterday & cracked her head. I was really glad (& she is now) that helmet wear was compulsory as I can't normally get her to wear one, even though she has her own Giro.

Tried MK again this morning and spoke to someone else. This time she said she'd go and ask someone who would know. Unfortunately she was quite definite in telling me they will not be running a bumps clinic or similar. Don't believe her though, so if anyone hears differently let us know.
