Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Engelberg advice

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi

Going to Zurich for a couple of days at the end of November, and wanted to do some skiing, so was looking at Engelberg. Would this be at all suitable for beginners? I know that it's mainly advanced, but we only need a couple of pistes! Or could anyone recommend any November skiing within a couple of hours of Zurich?

Thanks a lot

There are mellowish slopes around Trubsee/Jochpass but not the easiest and Titlis itself which is most snowsure isn't a particuarly gentle glacier. The real beginner area is Klostermatte by the monastery which I'd doubt would have snow that early and I don't know if Brunni is open that early.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

If you are going I can whole heartedly recommend the ski lodge Engelberg.

This might be of interest, Stockli ski test, accommodation and lift passes.

The red run on the glacier (served by a T-bar) is a real flatterer - we spent an afternoon several years ago just lapping that snowHead

Oh dear, I was thinking around the 21st! Would there be anywhere else within an hour or two of Zurich that might have snow then?

Thanks for the replies

Check out Flaine or Laax. Engelberg is not very beginner friendly.

Davos is an hour and 15 minute drive from Zurich, not sure if its open but loads of easy runs if it is.

Can anybody recommend a Guide in Engelberg. I'm going there for a long weekend in February 2013 and would like to spend some quality off piste time away from the group for half an hour or so.
Any help would be welcomed !
wink
