We are going to Morzine next summer (hubby is a keen mountain biker) and are looking for somewhere to go for the 2nd week. Annecy has been sugested and Lake Geneva, even Italian coast, has anyone got any recomendations???? I know this is a ski forum but I bet plenty of people can help me..........................
Many Thanks! x

What do you want to do in that week? Walk? Sightsee? Sunbathe? Swim?
One I wouldn't bother with is Lake Geneva. If it's August I'd be wary of the Italian coast - it'll be rammed. But if you are wisely going before the big holiday rush, and fancy a change of cultural scene, Cinque Terre might be a good destination. Very easy drive from Morzine, through the tunnel.

jo reuben, much will depend on what you want to do and how far you want to move from Morzine. Les Gets is just down the road, is very pretty in summer with a good bathing lake, and excellent mountain biking. You'll know about the PdS Multipass scheme in the area?
St Gervais is about an hour from Morzine, has a lovely town, stunning scenery, another bathing lake, wonderful spa facilities, and is just 20 minutes or so drive from Chamonix, again gorgeous in summer. The walking in any of these would be good, plus cycling, hiking etc. I know a couple of apartment buildings in St G which also have swimming pools - it can be VERY warm in July/August

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I would also highly recommend Saint Gervais. We have been there twice in Summer. There is a lovely 30m outdoor pool near the town centre and the thermal baths in Le Fayet are definitely worth a visit. you can get a cheap weekly pass to access the ski lifts in saint gervais, megeve (lots of people with bikes on lifts there), and les contamines (+ swimming pool/ice rink). The mont blanc tramway is a nice day out. You are also only a short drive from Chamonix so could get a 1 or 2 day multipass to use the cable/cars etc there.

Thanks so much everyone so far!!
We've got two active boys who don't sit still for long but I'd quite like to be able to sunbathe whilst they mess about in a pool in the afternoons, quite happy to go out and about as well. As we are in Morzine for the first week I'd quite like something a bit different as we'll be able to do lots of active stuff in/around Morzine.
Don't really want to go to Les Gets, we ski there every year and might take a trip over there whilst in Morzine.
Happy to drive 2/3/4 hours.
We will be going 20-27th july so maybe we should give Italian coast a miss!!
Any thoughts on Lake Annecy???

jo reuben, I've sent a day there (Annecy) twice and it IS lovely, but pretty busy and touristy in the town in the peak summer weeks. There are apartment buildings along the lakeside (Duingt springs to mind....) but I think they are pretty expensive. There is a Snowhead living there at the moment (Mr Piehole....) who may be able to help more specifically. There should be enough to keep active boys busy (I have two, too, and they love the Alps in summer as long as they're near water) and enough for you to relax too

Agree with previous posters on Saint-Gervais. We do quite a lot in that area of the Alps in the summer and other very popular destinations not too far from Morzine are Samoens, Evian, le Grand Bornand, Annecy (the Talloires, Menthon, Veyrier side is best) . Chamonix is very popular too - in fact they do more business in summer than in winter now so it can get extremely busy.
You can always have a look at our website for inspiration.

homers double,
m8, you should have said. If you want to set up a swap for my place in Les Arcs next year e-mail me. My g/f loves the lakes - she keeps on trying to swap me for George Clooney.

I have just come back from there, having decided to go on a seaside holiday for the first time in years. Wow - what an amazing place.
We stayed in the lovely upstairs apartment here and the owner is a great host - really helpful and friendly.

Also Les Arcs is one of the top rated mountain bike places in Europe (according to Dirt Bike magazine - see articles) - they sling panniers off the back of the ski lifts and tote your bike up hill for you repeatedly should you not want to climb. And the Tour de France uses 1950 as a mountain base for the legs around Bourg St Maurice so if you pick your time in the Summer you can hang around with Wiggens et al. Never done it myself but others have.

yup - no worries - the g/f still has not confirmed when she is free to ski so all is still fluid. Hope the catered solution works. For the future, if you want to do that at my place I think there is an option with the restaurant in the building to do that as an 'add on' since they do the buffet for the package guests. Doesn't look too bad as buffet/catered food goes. Also the Spar in the village does a shed load of freshly prepared local style dishes which are pretty good. Basically in two weeks I usually cook about four evening meals and make breakfast (coffee/cereal/pastries from the local baker) at home, the rest is either 'out' (lotsa nice places to go) or Spar preprep. Pretty easy really.

I spent christmas week in 1800 a few years ago so know the village is pretty well stocked.
