Poster: A snowHead

Hi, we are all set for family ski holiday to Alpe d'Huez 12th January 2013.
Can anyone suggest best ski school for 2 kids (7 and 5) who have skied twice before.
Last couple of years they have been the only English speakers in the group, so less fun and chat for them.
Which company is most suitable, and do they provide lunch so the adults are child-free until 2pm?
Many thanks for any suggestions.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Mumof2, I'd be surprised if your kids weren't the only EN speaking kids in the group (outside UK holiday time), unless you get a ski school that specialises/concentrates on UK clientele. Some of the forums/threads may well have answers to your questions, if you haven't tried before.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Hi dobby, yes i searched online in vain, and have now opted for the Whizz club in Crystal hotel (we got the last 2 spaces).
Just surprised there are not more parents taking under 7s out of school who have same requirements.
We bring what little homework they get at that age with us and they are learning a new skill after all (well that's how we justify it!). The ski trip becomes more affordable at this time of year.

We will be taking our 6yr old out of school in April (with schools permission) but we are going the Esprit route so the girls will be with other English children in there ski school groups as well as the kids club the other half of the day they aren't skiing. Time will tell whether we will be able to take her out of school when she is 7 as she will be in the Junior school then.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Mumof2, we went to LDA Club Med in Jan last year and the kids were the only English speaking ones in their class - still, our 11 year old said it was like having a private lesson. Our local authority (Cardiff) has started clamping down on hols outside official holiday times which really bumps the cost of the holiday. And the 12 year old would learn a lot more French or German on holiday than she would at school (well, possibly)

The ESF have made massive improvements over the years and in Alpe d'Huez they are used to have English speaking clients - particularly during UK school holiday periods. As you are going outside this there is invariably going to be less English speaking kids and it is most likely that they will only offer offer mixed language groups at that time of year (no other European country is on holiday). It can be fun too for the kids to be with other nationalities - kids of that age usually get on with any other kid - mine are in the same age range and they do.
